How's everyone doing?
What a great idea Daisymom - I am constantly on the site but feel like I am so new so I don't post a lot. My orientation was at the end of July. My nurse's appointment is September 25th. I have had all my testing done - blood work, ECG. I had a sleep study done last year and do not have sleep apnea. I am going through Windsor. I called to see if I could get on a waiting list but they said they don't have one. It feels like this is taking a super long time. I am scared to death of the surgery but can't wait for the healing. That's where I am anyway.
Toronto Western doesn't have a cancellation list either.
I was shocked that in some other provinces the wait is as long as 5 years! Personally, I think that's ridiculous and a complete drain on health care resources. While all these people are waiting for surgery, many are being treated for diabetes, sleep apnea and other issues. Not to mention the wear and tear on joints! I'm glad Ontario is better than that but I still think we have a long way to go.
My referral was done in February, and I had my orientation in April. I've been trying to post more, but I think with summer, the forums are all very slow.

RNY Jan 12, 2017 Lost 137 lbs but regained 60.
77 lbs lost and counting!
Losing the regain! I got this!
Today is 5 weeks post op for me. I saw my surgeon today but that's because I'm still having issues from my gall bladder removal, that was done the same day. I will be seeing a liver specialist now.
As for my gastric bypass, that has gone beautifully. Thankfully, I haven't had any issues such as dumping syndrome. I can pretty much eat anything but I'm still taking tiny bites and chewing til it's mush. My go to food is soups. I was never a soup person before but I love them now. I may make my own soup. The other thing that has changed is my drinking habits. Thankfully I can drink more now. Those weeks of taking tiny sips was hard. I was always thirsty. But now everything I drink has to be ice cold! If it's room temperature, I'll add more ice. I've used more ice the past couple weeks than I ever have. It's been hard to get all my vitamins/protein in. Sometimes the thought of even attempting to take them has made me sick to my stomach. It's getting better now.
For you pre op people, what I have learned is to not panic. There are a lot of rules in the beginning but it's all a learning curve. Just relax and all will be fine!
