Hello let me tell you a little bit about my journey!! I am 9 months out. I started at 262# and I am now at 195.  I am a SLOW loser. I have went from a size 2x top to fitting into a medium denver hayes today and a s/p reitmans yesterday. And I am into size 14 shorts from a size 22. I guess I shouldn't complain but the scale is NOT being nice to me and it is FRUSTRATING ME.  In a way I am happy that i am losing slowly, gives my skin a chance to catch up and really my skin isnt so horrible right now. But I am thinking that i should be at least at 90# lost! and I am only at almost 70# lost. I guess I should say YAY I have lost 70# but why dont i feel happy about it?  I have tried to switch up my protein sources, went back to a premier protein drink for breakfast, and then 2 boiled eggs and a piece of toast for lunch, greek yogurt for my snack, and then protein (pork chop or steak or chicken or burger) for supper with veggies and a little potato. I supplement my snacking with cucumber or cheese or little tomatoes if I am hungry, but I dont know what I am doing wrong! I am trying to be as active as my work life will allow, so I walk on my lunch and both breaks (40 minutes total) plus on weekends I do leslie sansonne or swimming, I just try to stay active. I am just hoping I am not the ONLY one who is a slow loser :(

Try not to be hard on yourself, or to compare yourself to others.  Your exercise and eating seems fine, although if you'd like to cut the bread and potato...you may see a change.  Make sure your fluids are high as well.  Just keep at it.  They say "Slow and Steady wins the Race".

Many 'light weights' lose slower. Doesn't mean we won't lose just often slower rate. Our bodies will determine where they want to stop. Scales drives us crazy. If you were asked pre-op would you be satisfied in a medium probably would jump for joy.

You are doing nothing wrong. I would lose the protein drink for breakfast. Eat not drink protein. Solid protein will keep you satisifed. Liquid just passes through. You may not be getting enough calories in

I had this same thought myself, and then had a really good conversation with my NUT at TWH about it and she set my mind at ease. First off, don't compare yourself to anyone else! Your journey is your journey! Everyone's body is completely different, and while some people may lose 10 lbs a week, others may only lose 1 or 2, or none. There are SO many factors in weight gain and weight loss that comparing yourself to anyone else will just cause you to doubt yourself. For me, I've spoken to people who have had surgery the same time I did and have lost well over 100 lbs by now. I think to myself "Am I a failure?" And the answer is absolutely NOT! And you're not doing anything wrong either!

Another conversation I had with my NUT is that a lot of people go low carb after surgery, and while low carb will make you lose weight faster, it is NOT sustainable! Of course, you have to watch your carbs, but eating a well balanced diet is key. I was low carb for almost 10 years and not only did it stop working, I ended up gaining more than I lost! It's just another diet fad.

Keep doing what you're doing! You're doing amazing... don't doubt yourself!

I just wanted to give you a little reminder of something.  With your activity, your muscle mass has increased, which is good.  And since muscle is more dense than fat, your clothes will get smaller, but the scale may not go down as fast as you think it should.  This is why it's a good thing to measure your waist, as well as use the scale.  As the scale may not move, but you are still losing.  It's just that your muscle is getting stronger and bigger.  You won't notice it as much as the fat loss.

Wishing you well on your journey.

Good morning beautiful people.  I posted a few weeks ago "3 pounds down....4 pounds up"

I had surgery April 2015 and have lost 85 pounds; I feel great although I wish I would have lost more in the "honeymoon stage" of our journey.

I have also logged in every little bit of everything that goes in my mouth.  I think I am doing good and then I get on the scale and up 4 pounds.  Water retention may be a culprit; heat; body's own way of doing things.

I know how you feel but like the advice I was given with my amazing support group was "you are far more ahead today then a year ago"  Just make good food choices and get moving.

Sometimes I do not want to eat anything at all because I feel so down but that it what got me to 285 pounds in the beginning.  Hope this helps, keep checking in for comments on this site.  I appreciate all the advice I have recd and give.

Keep well

Lisa

You are definitely not alone. I am a very slow loser too.  I had surgery in November 2015 and have only lost about 65lbs since starting Optifast (SW 268.8, CW 204.0).  In fact, I have only lost 2-3lbs a month for the past 3 months - major stall!! I had been feeling really down about it but I had my 6 month follow up and the dietician put it into perspective for me - I am still losing about 2lbs per week average which is WAY more than I was losing before surgery.  I have recently increased my activity by joining the gym at work and have already noticed a difference in my loss with just 30 minutes a day of cardio with weight machines thrown in every other day.  I started out my journey by just walking on my breaks but adding the extra activity at the gym 5 days a a week has really made a big difference.  Like everyone else said, try not to compare your journey to anyone else's but at the same time know that you are not alone.

Slow and steady wins the race.  Everyone has their own pace.  Sounds like you are losing inches and your sizes are going down.  Don't focus on the numbers on the scale but on how your body looks and feels.

Thank you so much everyone!! just reading others journeys has really put mine into perspective.  As the one person said, when I thought about myself before in a 2x top and a 22 pant and now I am down to medium and size 14, I would have DEFINITELY jumped for joy and thought it was impossible, I am not sure why I am not satisfied with that.  I guess only time will tell.
