Hi Everyone,

I noticed on a lot of different before/afters that many people experienced hair loss.  (YIKES)

I'm a bit afraid of this as my hair has already been thining a bit...did anyone experience this and was there anything that they did that helped to stop this?

I'd be curious to know.

You won't stop it.

The technical term if telogen effluvium( you can use the search for a ton of info on that one).  They suggest keeping protein levels high helps. ????  It is what it is unfortunately, although some people have convinced themselves that they have somehow outsmarted this hair loss cycle with biotin products or special shampoos.

I noticed my hair loss ( a lot!) but other people didnt seem to.  Some lose lots, some a little, some even claim none!!  The worst part is when it grows back and you have little flyaways everywhere.

I was VERY panicked about it too, but it's a small price to pay in my opinion when I look at the big picture now nearly a yr post op.

For me it started around 3 months and lasted for about 4 months. It grew back curly. I didn't have bald spots just thinned. With rapid weight loss our bodies go through stress, hormone levels go crazy which causes hair loss. Some people swear that Biotin works, didn't for me. Keeping hydrated, protein up helps

You have about 100,000 hairs on your head.  Most of the time, about 10,000 of them are in a resting state.

The anesthesia that puts the rest of your body to sleep also puts some of the hair follicles to sleep.  At three months after surgery those hairs start to fall out.  The fallout can continue for about six months and hair might get very thin.  New hairs grow back where the old ones fell out and you see little short hairs growing.

It takes time for those short hairs to catch up with the rest of your hair.

In the days before natural childbirth became popular many women delivered their babies under anesthesia and went through the same cycle after having a baby.

I think it comes mostly from the anesthesia, I have had a few surgeries in the past and each surgery I have experienced hair loss. I'm less inclined to think it is from the weight loss because about 15 yrs ago I lost 110 lbs and did not experience hair loss and I lost this weight within 8 mos (which I think is fast) but hey just saying.

i was one of the lucky ones and never lost any hair... it's thinner now... but i took biotin months before surgery and i'm 4 1/2 years out and still take it daily! good luck! but yea it does grow back!
