Referral to TWH

Hi Folks,

So I found out that I've been referred to TWH.  I noticed that many have gone there for their surgery.  Can any tell me about their experience and what the next steps are?

I know the first appointment is the orientation, and what comes after that?  I'm sure I'll find out at the orientation, but I'm curious to hear from people who have gone through it.

You will get a letter from TWH for the orientation.. usually takes 2 months or so...  Once you get the appointment for the orientation... you will get the next 3 appts...  My first appointment was approx 2 months after the orientation.. you can see below on the timeline :)  My next 3 appointments are social worker... nutrition group..and nurse appointment.. then should have approx 3 more until surgery.. :)

I went through TWH. Impressed with experience and follow ups. The longest wait is for orientation. Once you get to that point things fly. I was 6 months from orientation to surgery. 18 months overall. The wait is trying but usse it to make positive changes. Get rid of pop, junk food, caffiene etc...  They don't look for weight loss but like to see that making healthy choices.

Once you get to orientation if you don't mind appointments on separate days you often can get appointments faster. Don't leave one appointment without making your next one with front desk. Even for my annual i make it for the next year.

Thanks Leslie!  can I ask who performed your surgery?

I had Dr. Urbach. Saw Dr. Jackson pre-op and at post-op visit. Never did meet urbach but surgery went great. Going through twh who you see for your pre-op visit is not necessarily the one that will do your surgery. It all depends who is scheduled for the or the day of your surgery. I believe all of them are equally talented.

Was 15 months total for me from referral to surgery. Home 2 days.  Was supposed to have Dr. Okrainec but he wasn't working so had Dr. Jackson who is so kind and lovely and incidentally handsome. And Harvard trained so very smart and competent.  Can't say enough about how great the nurses were after my surgery, so much good advice and they were very compassionate and kind.  Everyone I have seen at the bariatric clinic has been great, too.  I think my only frustration is that it is impossible to get anyone on the phone and when they call back, it shows up as anonymous and I often don't answer those calls because they are usually telemarketers so it becomes a series of phone tag.
