meal plan preop.

I'm certainly not an expert, but from my nutrition class (Windsor as well) I remember them saying snacks should be a combo of 1 carb + 1 protein so I know the dietician will be looking for that in the meal plan.

Although people say to lose the carbs (and I don't disagree, I can't lose weight while eating a lot of carbs), to be approved for surgery by the dietician you have to follow their rules.

For my snacks I've been having raw almonds and a small banana, or a cheese string and a small apple, or Greek yogurt and a handful of berries.

I know it's hard to figure it all out...especially since there is so much info out there and a lot of it is conflicting. Hang in there, I'm sure you're doing great!

I think you are fine, breuxo. The dietician doesn't expect you to eat perfectly. If we all ate the good things we wouldn't be here. Just be honest and explain how you made your food.  You are there to learn. Listen to what she has to say, and take notes. I also listed what I was drinking all day, in my food diary.  My dietician was very nice and we spent an hour just talking and going over choices. Don't worry so much, they understand that we aren't perfect but are willing to learn.

For pre-op this isn't that bad. After surgery will be a whole new menu and then you really will need to lose the carbs. Good luck

I'm no expert but as a tip  just call the french fries something else.  Grilled potatoes or something.  :)

RNY Jan 12, 2017 Lost 137 lbs but regained 60.

77 lbs lost and counting!

Losing the regain! I got this!

I haven't even gotten to the nutrition class yet, and I'm with you Breuxo, I'm anxious and worried about the pre-op meal plan myself. I don't know whether they totally expect you to eat like you will after surgery or just follow the canada food guide. I can imagine it is confusing.

I can be a bit of a perfectionist at times...and I'd love to have the perfect meal plan to show the dietican, but I'm sure like other people have said, if I was eating good before I wouldn't be in this mess to begin with.

I'd love to meet the dietician and be approved on the first visit, but I'm totally prepared that if I go there and the dietician wants me to work on things thats okay too. That's what they are there for.

I'm sure you'll be fine, do the best that you can do, and that's all you can ask of yourself!

Did they let you ask questions at the nutrition class? Hope so. I will definitely have some.

Good luck to you!

I think that's my problem I'm over thinking everything as I always do. yes they let you ask questions at the nut class. My mom told me when she saw the dietician she just went over what my mom wrote down and told her things to change she still approved her even though she needed to make changes. I always overthink and want my "homework" to be correct I'm more relaxed now though!

When I went to the dietician, she just told me what was good and what was bad. She told me my portions were too big and showed me what a proper portion is. They just want to see we are trying to make better choices. Such as cutting out pop, choosing whole grains instead of white. Maybe mustard instead of mayo. Using reduced fat options when available.  I told her I was prepared for after surgery by using my son's divided plate and his toddler spoon. She also went over complications that can happen after surgery. They want to know that you know what your post op meals will be like and how long you will be on them (ie.full fluid stage, puree stage, etc.) Just read over your material and you will do fine. They want to make sure that you understand.
