Anyone else have to practice deep breathing post op?

Hi. Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather.

Everything has finally started to settle down for me. I am 6 days post op. I'm getting into to some smoother meal routines,

some tops are feeling a tiny bit looser, no pain, even when sneezing, vitamins are on schedule, injections are almost done, and I'm enjoying the full fluids so far. Cannot wait for pureed though. LOL

But as I sit here doing my breathing exercises into this plastic thing Humber gave me,  I have to wonder..... does everyone have to do this after surgery? Am I the only one? Was there a problem during surgery with my lungs? Does this have to do with my sleep apnea? I know I kept setting off the alarm in the recovery room with my monitors. The nurse kept coming over to me or she'd walk past me and say "take a deep breath".

My follow up is not until July 6th, so I thought i would ask you guys first. Thanks!

I had to do them while I was in the hospital (TWH)- that blue plastic thing with the ball in it right? They didn't say I had to keep doing them when I went home so I just left it there. You could always call the nurse and ask how long they want you to keep doing it for.

It's pretty routine, after all surgeries.

They had me do it at the hospital and she said I could bring it home and continue to do it if I wanted too.  I am not sure if it is necessary. Do you get it to the top, if so I would not worry about it.

I am doing okay.  Got home yesterday and was pretty tired and sore.  But today I feel better.  Sleeping last night was a bit of a challenge but I got through it.  Just getting myself in order today at home and organizing all my stuff.  Still sore but can mange with tylenol.  Going to have a shower YEH today and I am sure that will make me feel better too.  So far all good.  How are you doing?  How was your first week?

That iss o good to hear! Glad you are home. It feels better recovering at home. Showers are great. Made me feel human again. First week has been good. Just had to get on a routine with protein, meds etc. So its all good now. My steristrips came off yesterday. And i will be VERY happy on Friday, when I give myself my last injection. Eww. I keep bruising myself. Not doing very good job at it. LOL So now just onto the losers bench huh?

Yes getting into a routine is key.  Today I am just following the schedule I created for myself and it is going ok.  Will need to go out to the dollar store to get a couple of things to help make it easier.  Tylenol is sufficient for the pain.  The Pain reminds me of when we were in our car accident feels like a lot of muscle pain really.  The needles are fine.  When you put them in pu**** slowly and you will reduce your bruising.
