Hi all

I am finding I am so thirsty! I'm drinking my lemon water but do I really have to wait 15 minutes between sips? I'm doing the 1/2 hour before and after meals.

I've never heard of waiting 15 minutes between sips, but every centre is different.  I would say that you can have small sips more frequently, but to measure out an ounce and try not to go past that in 15 minutes.  Your pouch is healing and the nerves have been cut, so you will not feel if you have overdone it.  These are early days and you want to be careful.  The signals for being full vary with people, but some of them are sneezing, feeling that something is caught in your throat, hiccups.  Those can be signs that you are too full and to back off putting anything in your pouch for a bit.  We were told that the pouch when newly post-op is the size of an egg, so it can't hold alot and my centre did say to drink slowly, small sips.

The vets on hear will have some good advice I'm sure.

I'm 8 weeks post op and didn't measure out my water once I got home.  I just kept sipping away, and counted the empty water bottles at the end of the day.  I did adhere to the no drinking before and after meals part.  I haven't had any issues.

The 15 min is more to ensure you don't forget to drink. Sip sip sip. I found by week 2 i was able to take normal sips no problem. If your thirsty it means you are not getting enough
