I'm fairly new to this website. I'm in the very early stages of starting my journey. I've thought about doing weight loss surgery for several years now, as I've been overweight practically my whole life, but I'm at my heaviest I've ever been.

I was nervous to see my GP about it. Some doctors have very different views on weight loss surgery so I didn't know how she'd respond to my wanting to be referred to the Ontario Bariatric Program. She was very supportive!  I saw her March 28th, and the next day I found out I had an appointment for an Orientation in Windsor for April 11. I was shocked and surprised that it happened so quickly. My sister had an Orientation for the Medical Program the following week and she was referred last October. Must have been lucky to get in that quick perhaps.

The Orientation was informative, and have an appointment with the Nurse Practioner at the end of June.  Got all my blood work, ultrasound, and sleep study done. I found out last week that I have severe sleep apnea. I'm now waiting to see the Sleep doctor to fill out forms to get my CPAP.  Which leads me to a couple questions.

I've been lurking around for a bit, and reading some posts. I have noticed that people who have sleep apnea go for a second sleep study. Why? My GP told me I wouldn't have to go for a second sleep study, but since I've seen many people on this forum go for a second, I'm keeping the idea of another one open. Would prefer not...lol

Also, any people going or who have gone through the Hospital in Windsor I'd love to know your experience.

And any insight to the social and nutrional appointments would be helpful as well.

Thanks.

How many sleep study's did you go for? If your first one comes back positive for sleep apnea then you have to go back for another- this time you'll wear the cpap machine- they do this so they know what pressure your machine will be set at once you get your machine.

Hope that helps abit

I've only had one sleep study done. My GP rushed my sleep study, so I never saw the sleep doctor before hand. Now I'm waiting for a follow up with him/her to discuss the CPAP treatment and fill out the paper work for ADP.

Thanks for the reply, I will expect to have another one then.

Hi and welcome.

As for the sleep study, I had 3 the 1st was at the sleep clinic and the 2nd was a home study for 4 wks to determine with an APAP Machine which gave them a reading as to what pressure I required and the 3rd was back at the sleep clinic with my own machine to determine a more in depth study on how I was responding to the therapy. I think it just depends on you respiratory specialist. My Sister only had the sleep clinic and home one done. Hope this was helpful

Best of luck with your journey :-)

Thank you for your reply. I've read some post and some places people seem to fly through their appointments and other's not so much. Give's me a general idea of what to hopefully expect time wise.

At the nutrition class do they give you information sheets like they did at the Orientation or do they expect you to take notes of what they are telling you? I've read and seen on you tube from other people's experience that the nutritionist expects you to know your stuff from the class.

they give you papers of everything they talk about,I personally took notes but I was the only one writing stuff down lol but it just helps me learn it. yes she will be asking you questions about the stuff taught at the dietician appointment.

I'm glad they give you information sheets, but like you I'll be bring a book to write down things. It can't hurt lol

Thank you.

If they diagnosed your sleep apnea early on in the evening of your test, they normally wake you for use of the cpap and to get your readings. If that works, only one test (appointment) is required.
