just wondering what kind of stool softener people used after surgery. We can't swallow ducolax, so is liquid lactalose an option?

Thanks a bunch!

Hey thanks for sharing, I am having issues cuz calcium and me don't seem to get along lol. I am still pre-op but have been getting used to taking my vitamins ahead of time and the calcium is causing me issues now and I'm sure it will be the same issue post-op. Heading off to shoppers to check out my options. :-) Happy Sunday.

Maybe the over the counter stuff is different. I used to work in a group home and the ducolax pills were quite large. I was under the impression that after surgery all meds were to be liquid, chewable or sublingual

These are quite small but I also was under that impression until I had surgery and was sent home with 3 different prescriptions that we're all to be swallowed

i have used restoralax once a day its a powder you can dissolve into your water and there is no flavour at all.  It will help keep the stools soft and keep your regular

Hey there,

I totally forgot about stool softeners for after surgery. About 4 days post op I was in severe pain because of being backed up. I tried Metamucil, and that did not help. Then the light went off in my head and I remembered I was told to take Milk of Magnesia. I managed to get to the pharmacy to get a bottle. I took two med cups when I got home(afternoon) and one before bed. Even by that time, I had started churning down there. I woke up at 3 am to go pee... and Kaboom!! I was on and off of the toilet for hours. It felt so good.

Since then, I have incorporated it into my daily routine. For me, I take 1 med cup every night before bed, and I have a half a glass of prune juice. In the mornings, as part of my breakfast, I eat Bran Buds. Again, that is "my" daily routine.

I am regular like regular can be.

Good luck.

Cheers,

Skotti
