Today was day 5 for me. I was really not a fan of the flavour on day 1 but I knew why I was having them so I pushed through it. Plugging your nose is a good option although that after taste/smell will remain. Even my daughter (who is 9) tells me if I talk to her while drinking it that my breath smells like my nasty shakes! Lol Now I really don't mind the flavour. I'm used to it and almost enjoy them?!

I'm at TOH and we aren't allowed veggies. Just the shakes, sf flavourings, sf jello, broth/bouillon. I tried instant decaf in my first vanilla shake and didn't like it (but then again, I didn't like it plain much either that day). I have yet to try adding ice to any of them, I just add 400ml cold water. Today, because of the hunger, I tried some broth in the evening (13 cals for 1 cup). That did the trick. I also picked up some af jello but haven't made it yet so I don't get sick of it too fast.

My hunger only started to kick in yesterday and today so I should get over it by Thursday. Even still, I chase the hunger away with water. Flavoured water (I have 5 flavours) kills the after taste when you sip it right after the shakes.

About 20 years ago, I did optifast for 4 months and never cheated.  They stole the creamcicle recipe for me - but I used any diet soda - orange, peach, choholate.  Your idea to add coffee sounds good.  I did not use a blender - just a shaker but always used refrigerated water and soda - never room temp.  After shook it up, then I added soda.  I used a 24oz cup.  Always drank using a straw. 

You might need to experiment with your favorite flavors. 

Can you follow the directions you have been given?   If cukes were not on list, avoid. try to build your ability to follow directions.  If you think they should be allowed, ask.

I felt the same way at first. I got sf syrups from Starbucks and added about 5 pumps with ice, water and opti. Blend in a magic bullet and it tastes like a milkshake. Much better than on its own. Good luck!

Just to update - I have some flavored sugar free syrups and those helped. I added cherry to the chocolate one last night and it wasn't too bad. My bf picked up decaf coffee for me so I can make the chocolate one with coffee at night. I talked to the nurse practitioner and dietitian at TWH yesterday. The dietitian suggested adding jello powder directly into the optifast and water/ice to help with the flavor so I might try that too. I managed to get 3 down yesterday and some broth.

I can't see where it says the broth has to be saltless because I added salt and pepper to mine. They did verify no veggies :(

Going to try to get all 4 in today - wish me luck!

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Its nasty, was on ti for 4 weeks :( I did the plug your nose and drink the shake (just made with cold water and the Opti Packet), and then I chased with decaf coffee, which helps to kill the Opti flavour a lot!!!

My typical day when I was on the Opti was

Shake when I got up
Shake for lunch about 3.5 hrs later
Chicken broth about 2 hrs after the lunch shake, 10 calories for 175 ml I believe
Shake for dinner about 2-3 hrs after the broth
Shake for the fact u need 4 lol about 3 hrs later
Then I had SF Jello pretty much when I was watching tv right before bed (yay dessert!)

I also drank like 4-5 L of water a day lol! Was the least dehydrated I have ever been in my life!

When I got to the 3 week mark I couldnt stand the stuff anymore and I started to be only able to get 3 shakes in a day as I was also feeling a lot less hungry then I was in the begging.

Its totally worth it tho, I am 2.5 months post op now and just hit my first "goal" 60 pounds (total including opti hell) and I saw the 200's again!
