just wondering for those who have had plastic surgery do we need a referral from our centre or can we call any plastic surgeon and schedule a consult? I am in the Trenton/Kingston area does anyone have any good plastic surgeons in this area that they have used? I am willing to travel but would like to try closer to home first.

I don't know about your area, but when I asked my GP about getting a referral, she said that they don't refer people to plastic surgeons any more.  You just call them and book a consult.  She just gave me the phone numbers of 2 in my area.  When you do book, ask if there is a fee, so that you are prepared when you get there.

You don't call your centre. Depending on plastic surgeon you may or may not need your gp for referral not to pay consultation fee. As well if you are looking for panni/OHIP approval make sure who you see works with ohip. Not many do. Plus check that they work with wls patients as our skin heaals differently. I use Dr.. Nandagopal. His office is at Scarborough General Hospital in the medical mart. He does a lot of work with the wls population. He also has a private plastic surgery clinic in Vaughan called USculpt. You can find USculpt on facebook for contact info.

OHIP may cover cost of panni and breast reduction. The surgeon will let you know and send into ohip for approval.. feel free to pm me if I can help.

If you are hoping to have a panni covered, go for the referral.  Make sure it is an ohip accepting doctor.  The referral was great because it meant that I was not charged for a consult.

I recently had surgery with Dr Ford in Oshawa, my doctor referred me, and Ohip covered a breast reduction and a pannis removal, which I then upgraded to a fleu de lis.  I am now 9 weeks from surgery and am healing well a little bit of swelling but am delighted with the outcome.

Is the process hard ? If I got my doctor to refer me what do i need to get ohip to cover it ?  just wondering if anyone knows this since id like to look into it in maybe a few months.

For me, the process wasnt hard but lengthy, From referral to surgery was approx 9 months.

I had kept a note of all rashes skin complaints and photos to help, but after being referred by my Dr. to the plastic surgeon, these were not used.

I did have an extremely large pannis which Dr ford measured. (and I assume sent in these measurements with the request for approval.)

I also had a H cup size and chronic pain documented.

I waited about 3 weeks for approval on my breast reduction and about 9 weeks on the pannis.

And then paid extra for an upgrade.

Ive lost newrly all my chest... its mostly skin sith a little bit of brest left. Lol!

Im not concerned about the time line. I expect it to take time. The ingrown hairs and irritation are whats getting me. Lol. Plus i have a little more work to do... im hoping to manage another 10lbs or tone up some muscles at least over the summer.

And i have to plan around school as well... so taking time is alright by me.

Just wondering what i should have in order and all for when im ready to begin the process.

Thank you.

May look intonthe upgrades but financially with school that wouls be difficult.
