Sleep Test

I had a cardiac arrest due to undiagnosed SA. I was dead 20 plus minutes...miracles happen and I am here to say, it's a deadly and serious but treatable condition. Most centres require sleep studies, if the original posters centre does not, so be it.

And, for what's it's worth, YOU need to chill with your comments of others being rude.

Have a look in the mirror.

Do you have excss day time sleepiness? Falll asleep while listening to someone talking watching tv, driving? Does anyone tell you you stop breathing while sleeping? Just a few symptoms. If you don't have any chances are you don't have apnea

No, none of those. I don`t believe I have sleep apnea. I`ve seen many people here say that they been to the sleep clinic as part of the process. I was just wondering if everyone goes?

It really depends on your centre.. Not all require one

I have sleep apnea so there was no need for me to have a test done. I do believe if you have not had a sleep test then they will send you to rule out sleep apnea. It is common with obesity and can contribute to serious health issues if it is not addressed. Hope this helps.

Google it so you know what to expect if they do send you .

it's more than just snoring, but most centers base it on the size of your neck  certain neck diameters are indication that you will have sleep apnea. but once they take your initial measurements they will then decide if you need a sleep study done or not.

as a side note I don't think the first person to respond was intending to be rude. I think perhaps it was read wrong and maybe not enough detail in the answer but I think the person was just trying to relay a message that it's important for more than just the bariatric program process to get a sleep test.

I don't have any symptoms but they measure your neck size. the nurse told me I am borderline for needing one. I just told her I would get one done to avoid needing it last minute.

I got sent for a sleep study. I told Dr. Glazer that I didn't have any symptoms of sleep apnea and felt good when I did my sleep study. Come to find out when I went back to see Dr. Glazer that I have moderate sleep apnea and now have to sleep with a CPAC machine. I told him I had no idea there was any problem. I have to have the machine when I go in for surgery so I have to do what I have to do.  I'm sure once I lose the weight I won't need it any longer.  If you see Dr. Glazer you will almost definately go for a sleep study since that is one of his areas. I go back and see him in 6 months and have to do another sleep study with my machine. it's all part of my journey, lol.
