What's involved with switching Centres?

I went to my orientation on Monday, and found out that TWH are probably not going to be using other hospitals anymore.  I know this is about me, but when I have the surgery, I know my husband well enough that the stress of going to TWH will probably keep him away- even though he will want to be there. So realistically, I am thinking that Humber will be the better choice. I know that this will probably delay my surgery, and I've been so anxious to get the ball rolling, but I think I have to do this.

The switch is very easy. You simply call the centre you are with, and ask them to send your file to the other. Then in two weeks, call the new centre to make sure your chart has arrived.

Yes, this will cause a considerable delay to surgery date. Humber will get your file and then schedule your orientation for a month or two or three out. At Humber you don't get your next dates at the orientation, but rather wait SEVERAL months to be contacted. People who had orientation in August/September of 2015 are just now getting calls for their meet the surgeon and trio appointments.  So in total, I would guess it'll be an extra 6-8 months going through Humber over TWH.  But if you're ok with that, then you should do what is best for you!!  Best of luck with your transfer!

WOW! 6-8 month delay! I don't think I can do that.

I'm a small town girl and when I started the process my choice was Guelph. Closer to home and no Toronto traffic

Anyway, cir****tances had me go to TWH and it was really easy to get to (coming from the west).

i only ever had to go once because my other 2 appointments were done via telehealth.

I have heard the wait at Humber is super long.

Bear in mind if you have the time, you can call regularly for cancellations and that can decrease your wait time. Have heard several people have sucess with that.

YEs- I'm hoping that works for me at TWH- I was able to get my orientation moved up by a couple of weeks that way.

I am at Humber and had my orientation Dec 10, 2015. Yep....still waiting! I am guessing I will get my call for appointment about August.  Yes, it takes ages, but I have heard that once you get the call it all goes pretty quickly.  It actually works out best for me this way....if I have my surgery Dec or Jan or Feb, that is when it is quieter at work and will be better for me to take time off and come back gradually.  i thought about switching, but I figured what's the point?  I don't want to take a chance with my file getting lost, etc.  I will just be patient! lol!  the past almost 5 months have gone by rather quickly.....good luck with whatever decision you make!

I had my orientation Sept/15 with Humber and I'm still waiting. I've called to make sure I haven't been forgotten and was told not to worry I will get a call.

The wait is hard but try to make changes now while you wait.
