I'm Manulife not Sunlife, but was approved for 6 weeks no question.  If I need more time (which judging so far I wont) then I just need to send an update from the Doctor for consideration.

Every plan is different, read your benefit book, it should explain in there what you are covered for.

Depends on your benefit plan.  Most companies only have Long term disability and you have to apply for sick benefits through EI first.  They cover up to 17 weeks and then it would go to Long term if you have that coverage and need more time off.  Your HR person will definitely confirm what you have in your plan.

Good luck

Fortunately we definitely do have short term.  Because I have been with the company for a long time, I have 26 weeks at 100% coverage...  I'm waiting still for the reply, but from the sounds of it I will be covered.

RNY Jan 12, 2017 Lost 137 lbs but regained 60.

77 lbs lost and counting!

Losing the regain! I got this!

If you are unable to get Sunlife to cover your time off, you can apply for Employment Insurance.  You would need to send a letter from someone on the surgeon's team or from the surgeon to say that you cannot work for whatever amount of time.  I applied online and mailed in my letter.  I did this for a mental health issue, though, so you may want to look into what you need to give EI for this.

Edit: I just read that you will be covered.  I am very glad to hear this.  I'm leaving my post here for anyone else that might be interested in this route.
