Surgery
I just went to my first info session last week..I am very excited about getting surgery...what would b reasons that they will not pass u through to see surgeon? I am worried about that..I am obese and have higo blood pressure but hear that if they don't feel u are ready u don't go on...what can I do to be ready?
Study the packet they give you. They will ask you to explain the surgery, the complications, the different stages of food after surgery. I don't think they won't pass you but may ask you to come back for another appointment if they feel you don't fully understand what is going to happen. You don't have to know things word for word, just study and you'll be prepared. Congratulations on beginning your journey! This site is inspirational.
The only reasons I've heard of being denied are based on not meeting the criteria, or if doing the surgery would put you in a worse situation. I assume that you have at least a BMI of 35, plus a co-morbidity that you know of. If you were a smoker, and hadn't quit smoking for 6 months before starting the process (in some cases, in others before surgery) that would deny you (and they can tell).
There are some people that have been delayed, but not denied. This will be because of a medical issue that is not under control. They do a number of tests during your journey, and if they find something then they may want to deal with it before your surgery. Or if they find some psychological issues, they may want you to seek counseling first. The purpose of this is to make sure that you are in a good spot for the surgery, and will have a better success rate post surgery.
If this is your first documented attempt to lose weight, they may recommend you do an alternative (I.e. Weigh****chers, a medical program, etc) for a period of time before you go through the program.
I wish you well on the journey.

The only reason i have heard for refusal is uncontrolled or non treated psychiatric issues. As long as controlled will not refuse. Making positive changes in diet exercise shows your commitments. Weight loss is usually not a requirement. Stopping pop, junk food is a good start. Walking is good too. Just over 4 years and absolutely no regrets.
