Hi Everyone!

I'm going to my doctor tomorrow to ask about the possibility of have a DS procedure done. I had my Gastric Bypass in 2007, lost 160lbs, got preggo, had my baby, put back on half more than half the weight lost, and can't lose anymore of it!

I've been reading that have a DS after a Gastric Bypass is a good solution, and I see from the Bariatric Network website that the DS is done in Ontario. But what I can't find is any information on whether there are surgeons in Ontario who will convert a Gastric Bypass to a DS.

Does anyone have any insight on this?

Thanks!!

Dr. Hong out of Hamilton is the only surgeon that I know that will do it.  He will even take down a RNY and do a VSG.  Not sure if he will take down a RNY and go to DS all in one procedure.  I had a friend that went to him and it was to be done in two steps for her.  Take down the RNY and do the VSG portion then a year later the switch would be done if needed.  Not sure if he alwas does it this way or if it was in her own situation.

Good to know. I'm not picky about the DS. If a VSG is a better way to go, I'm all for it.

But, that's helpful. Thank you!

I hate to throw cold water on your idea - but unlikely they will do additional surgery if you have maintained 50% of your excess weight lost.  Sounds like you have?

Unlikely also unless a mechanical failure or another really good reason.  Especially the DS.

Suggestion - give it another effort to lose.  Yeah its really tough but you still have your small pouch to assist in eating less.  Ditch the carbs - ( toast and peanut butter for breakfast for example) and stick to dense protein and a bit of veggies.  Lots of water.  I think you will be surprised to see your surgery still works for you

It wont be a fast process to lose like it was as a recent post op.  Just suggesting you give it a try.

Revisions are more serious then virgin surgeries.  They are going to want a compelling reason to consider putting you under the knife again.
