Good morning all. Suppose to snow today. So far just grey clouds. Out to walk the dog soon. Dinner out tonight at my sisters. My 70 yr old SIL just retired. We are having a dinner to celebrate.

I have been having a rough time with my weight for the last couple of months. It finally dawned on me why. I am a person who likes to be in control of my life and this year is like free falling. Very scary. My son is getting married. My DH is retiring and I am going part-time. All good things but expensive. I need to get my head around all these things and make some plans. Right now I am just sticking my head in the sand and hoping for the best.

Good morning everyone.  Meg, I'm sorry that you are feeling so drained, definitely call the doc.  Barb good luck in the tournament, Pat enjoy you dinner out with your sisters.

Zizzler your day sounds amazing and congrats on almost being a normal BMI.

Yesterday was a busy day, picked a friend up in a different town, did some shopping, cleaning, and then last night DH and I went out to listen to live music in yet another town, lol.  We stayed out until 2am and then I had to drive home.  I am a very tired camper this morning, but I did have a lot of fun.

Today it's laundry, paperwork, and a quiet night in front of the TV.

Good morning Cc, your menu looks super yummy, especially the protein French toast.  How do you make it?  I have yet to make zuchinni noodles myself, although I bought a spiralizer to try, sounds awesome.  86g protein seems pretty high protein to me, what do you aim for in a day?  I wanted to ask you, when you make the quest bars into cookies how long do you bake them for?   I usually do them in the microwave but I think baking might make them more like really home baked cookies.  Btw, I saw this recipe the other day for zero net carb dumplings.  It uses glucannon konjac powder: Peggy's Orignal Dumplings:  https://buttoni.wordpress.com/2013/01/12/dumplings/.  Only problem is the flour costs like 32 bucks a bag!

Zizzler for the French toast I used 1 slice of protein bread (P28) and dipped it in a mixture of 1 beaten egg, 1/8 cup milk and a sprinkle of cinnamon.  Fried it in a little butter and cut it in half, then spread it with 1/2 oz of cream cheese softened with 2 strawberries sliced and mixed in.  Then I topped it with 1/8 cup Mrs. Butterworths sugar free maple syrup.  Was quite good and I saw the recipe in the Ontario Meat and Poultry Recipe book, I just adapted it to be more protein and less carbs.  Tomorrow I will try it with this Kraft Philadelphia Cinnamon cream cheese.

I have never baked with glucomannan, but have thickened sauces with it and made pudding.  It has the same slime factor that chia has.  It is what Shirataki noodles are made from, also it is what they thicken the jelly with for jelly donuts.   Let me know if you make the dumplings, and how they turn out because I have some Konjac flour in the cupboard.

For the Quest cookies I have an oven that is pre-heated to around 375, and I soften the Quest bar in the microwave for 20 seconds, then cut into 8 pieces and flatten into rounds between 2 pieces of parchment paper.  Pop them in the oven and watch them carefully.  They cook in 3-5 minutes and will burn easily if you don't keep an eye on them.  If I am baking something in the oven like a roast, I will make a batch of cookies while the oven is still warm and the roast is resting.  That way I'm not heating up the oven just for the cookies.  White chocolate raspberry is good and so is apple pie.

I am totally making that French toast, sounds awesome.  Good to know about the texture of the glucommannan.  Not sure it is worth buying the flour at 32 bucks but I might give it a shot. I still have a bag of xantham powder and guar gum I need to use up, plus a big bag of wheat protein flour.  Only 3-5 mins in the oven for the cookies, good to know.  Have you tried chocolate chunk or double chocolate?  I would probably make them in my toaster oven to save on electricity, I don't use my regular often unless it is something bigger.  Now I just have to go buy some quest bars, I am all out :0)

Zizzler I bought a few boxes of the Quest Bars when Popeyes had it's customer appreciation sale (they hold them twice a year) where everything in the store was minimum of 15% off.  If you spend a certain amount of money on that day, they give you a grab bag filled with all kinds of goodies.  My goodie bag had over a dozen different protein shake packages, protein bars, supplements, pre and post workout drink mixes, a hat, a backpack, pill holder, lanyard and magazines.  It was like opening up a Christmas stocking.  You should see if they have one near you.

I will definitely make the French toast again.  I have a tin of sugar free apple pie filling that I may use to stuff the French toast with, it should go well with the cinnamon cream cheese.  Because of my cold, I was craving some fruit.  In the produce section of my grocery store I found a small container of cut up fresh fruit that had mango, strawberries, blueberries, grapes and raspberries in it.  Today I might have mango cream cheese French toast.  You could probably cut the calories by using Pam instead of butter, and by using light cream cheese, but I used such a small amount.  You could also use low carb bread instead of the protein bread, but I'm all about trying to keep my protein numbers higher (I aim for 100g a day, but doesn't always happen).

I will have to check out Popeye's appreciation day, there is one super close to where I live, thanks for the info.  I am waiting for the next GNC bogo sale to get more shakes and bars as well, I am all out of chocolate.  1oog protein per day is awesome Cc!  I am going to try making French toast with protein bread, awesome idea.  I hear you about craving fruit, it happens to me too.  Mixing it with the protein of French toast is an awesome idea, thanks!  Sorry to hear about your cold, hope you feel better soon.

Good morning Pat.  That is great that you are realizing what is stressing you and why.  I am the same way, I like things organized and in control, when they are not I get nervous and unhappy.  I have heard it can be stressful when a couple retire as their routine changes, they spend more time around eachother and can get on eachothers nerves pretty easily.  Is there a retirement course available to you where you work?  I have heard that this is very helpful from many retirees.  They also recommended this book, which I really love: The Joy of Not Working, which is written by a Canadian gentleman out west. I read it and liked it so much I bought a copy, which is very unusual for me.  If I bought copies of all the books I read I would be in trouble :0)  I hope you have a nice time at the party Pat, and don't worry, everything will work out and be ok.

Thank you for the name of the book. My DH just found out this week he will have to leave at the end of July but his pension will not kick in until September, Guess we better start saving for that as well
