What did you eat in the months before surgery?
I want to be in the best possible shape before I have my surgery- probably the beginning of next year. I've lost weight lots of times, so I know what to do but I was just curious what your diets looked like beforehand- prior to the Opti of course.
Thank you!

77 lbs lost and counting!
Losing the regain! I got this!
Cut out the junk. No pop, no caffeine. Did work with a Dietician to develop healthier eating. If you cut out the junk and pop and stuff you can't eat post op it will help break the cravings and help to detox your body. Up your water. They dont look for weight loss but healthier choices. I managed to lose about 30 lbs in the 6 months pre-op. My goal wasn't weight loss but being as healthy as I could for surgery.
I tried to change over to healthy foods. I made sure to start eating some of the things they suggest, cottage cheese, spaghetti squash, lean proteins, just to start getting myself used to my future diet. But I will admit, the week before starting optifast was a total food funeral. I had most of my favorite foods, just to be sure I got to enjoy them one last time!

I'm actually worried that I may have type 2 diabetes so I need to go to my doctor. I have an extremely dry mouth, and I've been very tired the last few weeks. I know my blood sugar has been high in the past, and I did have gestational diabetes.
Sigh.

We all know what to do, doesn't mean everything we know works for us. Not everything works for everyone, if it did, we wouldn't need surgery and there wouldn't be 101 diets out there.
Not sure what I ate, but I will give you some tips:
1. Start journaling everything. Food, Activity, and emotions. Also think about how you feel when doing activity and when you eat.
2. You know where you need to be, after a week take a look at the journal and see where you are at. Then you can see where you need to improve.
3. Make small goals. For example, if you are only drinking 4 glasses of water a day, aim for 5 glasses of water a day. When that becomes second hand, aim for 6 until you get to the 8 or so glasses every day. If you are drinking 4 pop a day, cut it down to 3 for a while, then down to 2, and so on. Don't try to change everything at once. It won't last.
4. If you do end up having diabetes, talk to a dietician and see what the diabetic levels of food should be. And set your goals around that.
I wish you well on your journey.
