BMI
currently my BMI is 41.8 I have one medical condition which I need to loose weight for or I'll be forced to get a shunt! anyways if you have to have a bmi of 40 when I do my first weigh in.... what happens once I start loosing a few pounds?! if I loose 18 pounds my bmi won't be 40... it will be 38/39. does that mean I would get dropped from the program? does your bmi have to remain 40+?
In some cases you could be denied the surgery if it is determined that you are capable of losing the weight on your own. I was advised by the nutritionist to follow the pre-op diet, but not to let my BMI get lower than what would qualify for surgery.
Look into the requirements and take responsibility for yourself. The commodities that insurance companies generally accept are:
-
- Arthritis
- Sleep Apnea
- High Blood Pressure
- High Cholesterol
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Venous Stasis Disease (Collection of Blood in the Lower Limbs)
- Soft Tissue Infections
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
yeah I have a rare medical issue that my neuro said is something that's covered. but I only have one issue I was told if you have two then your bmi can be 35. it's just annoying I've been overweight my whole life I loose 20 pounds then gain 40. I'll have to see what they say but I was just curious. thank you
I think you will be fine, my BMI was 40.2 when my GP refered me and was that when I had my initial consult with the bariatric clinic. During my wait period I took it down to 36. My understanding is that OHIP looks at your initial BMI.
Like White Dove says practice healthy habits and you will be ready for what is in store for you.
