I'm having a stent placed on the 25th. I've just started my process have only been to info session so far. I'm going to be on plavix a blood thinner for life? I think some people get put on 6 months. (the stent is in my head not my heart) anyways will I be able to get surgery anyone know what happens when your on a blood thinner?

I'm having surgery on Wednesday and on low dose aspirin. For me I had to stop aspirin yesterday-7 days before surgery. They said there's  no harm in stopping it before hand (as per  the anesthesiologist ).  Also when I went to the pre-admission clinic where I also saw the anesthesiologist,  I first saw the pharmacist and she said to stay on aspirin - but there's more risks during surgery.  Then I saw the anesthesiologist and she told me stop it.

I'm taking aspirin for suspected atherosclerosis. Artery in brain is narrowed -which caused me to lose vision in my eye temporarily.  So my case isn't that 'severe' to stop it. I don't know if it's case by case but anesthesiologist said it would do no harm to stop aspirin 7 days before.

Hope this helps.

I was on Plavix prior to my rny.  I stopped a few days prior to my surgery.  In the hospital, they started me on coumadin to replace the Plavix.  Plavix is not recommended after rny.  It is hard on your stomach.

Hope this helps.
