poop problems
Hey, everyone.
So I'm about 4.5 months out, and almost since I had surgery (maybe starting a month afterward?) I feel sick to my stomach every time I need to poop. I'll sit on the toilet feeling like I'm too warm and going to throw up. I wouldn't say the pooping part is super difficult, but it's not as easy as it used to be, and I'm afraid to take fibre for it because I've heard that can cause problems. I avoid laxatives because I have really bad reactions to them, almost like what I described above only ten times worse, where I feel faint and start sweating.
Has anybody else had this problem? I'm not sure what to do.
Sounds like you are having a vagal response. When stool is hard and you force and push hard you can get faint, rapid heart rate, sweating. Constipation is very common. It is hard to get enough fibre in. Stay away from metamucil. Restoralax is safe to take daily. It can be put in hot or cold liquid and is clear and tasteless. It does not cause cramping. Colace or ducosate sodium is a softener which can also help.
Glycerine suppository can be used as well if needed. I am four yr+ out and I still have problems. The more you have problems the more anxious you get to go which contributes to the problem. Try to increase your water. Always keep it beside you and sip sip sip.
You are not alone out there with this problem.
ive dealt with major constipatioin for 9 months since my surgery. I've only recently found what works and going daily again. I use restorlax daily in my water and i started taking a refridgerated probiotic from my local health food store and after about 2 weeks after starting them i started going daily sometimes twice a day. I have used everyting under the sun and nothing worked unless i took 4-6 doses of milk of magnesia over a 24 hour span before i would finally go. I've gained up to 10 pounds from constipation.

Hello
I have the same problem and it started like around 4 months after RNY. Not so much trouble getting it out, like you mentioned. The body seems to move it down but not without tremendous pain, gurgling, and then I spit up clear fluid while on the toilet. It could just happen after I wake up and don't even eat anything yet too. Like you I avoid laxatives and eat lots of fibre.
I hope someone can share some insight if this happens to them too?
(for me personally Petersen's hernia was ruled out as it was repaired in 2 operations and galbladder is gone).
