Doubting whether or not surgery is for me
Don't forget that once you're approved for surgery you can wait up to a full year before you have the surgery without having to start all those appointments over again. If you need time to think about it, you have plenty, but don't knock yourself out of the running when you aren't sure.
I just had my roux-en-y surgery Tuesday. The ONLY way I got through this psychologically was knowing 100% that this was the right decision and that I had tried EVERYTHING else. This is an irreversible procedure.
If you can do it without surgery, then no question don't do the surgery! In saying that though....surgery is a life long change (with minimizing how much and what you eat). Without surgery, eating properly "should" be a life long change, but I know for myself, I couldn't ever stick to it and would often indulge if I thought I ate good the day before "I did so well yesterday, I'm rewarding myself with a pizza tonight...a whole one!". I give you a lot of credit though, 35lbs is a lot to lose on your own - I couldn't do it! Surgery was more of a push for me, it was exactly what I needed to get my ass in line. It isn't a small decision, surgery of any kind (to me anyway) is a big deal.
In 2008 I started the process at Humber. Shortly after I decided surgery wasn't for me that I could do it on my own. I spent the next 5 1/2 years gaining and losing the same 30lbs. At that point I realized I couldn't do this without another tool to help me. I went back to Humber but ended up transferring to Guelph in 2015 so I transfer centers. My surgery was Jan. 28th and since August 2015 I've lost a total of 65lbs. I am off blood pressure medication for the first time in 14 years and feel like a new person. I always was active, but my energy levels are amazing now. I am able to go do what I want now. For me surgery was the right decision and I truly regretted no having the surgery in 2008.

Be 100% sure that this is what you want before going ahead. You won't have the opportunity to look back once the changes to your anatomy have been made.
I knew there was no other way for me to have a healthy life and tackle the co morbidities I was facing, but if you think you can, don't have surgery. It's that simple.
hello Pamela, i know what you are going through. i went through the process some years ago and wasn't sure so i didn't go through with the surgery. i guess it was not he right time for me and my family. a few years later i went through the process again and felt like i understood the process and was very ready for the surgery and a better life for myself and my family.
I had surgery April 04, 2015 and i am so happy that i did the surgery. i feel healthy and happy.
you need to feel 100% sure that this is the right time for your surgery and that you know everything that there is to know. tu will be fime, yes there are some obstacles but they far outweigh the obstacles of being overweight and having further health issues.
if you need any advice along the way please feel free to call me ot email me. i have met a few amazing women along the way. we meet once a month and have amazing conversations. i would love if you came out and had a chance to get some live feedback. i totally understand how you feel.
