Constipation with Vitamins

I am 7 months out (holy crap, how did that happen?) and I haven't been great with my vitamins. I talked about this with the nurse at my 6 month appointment last week and I am not on plan with them.  The problem? Severe constipation.  To the point that I have a hard poop that is literally sitting in my rectum and will not come out. The pain is unbearable at my anus. I have tried laxatives with no success and tonight I will do a suppository. I am so scared it won't work and I will have to go to the hospital.  I haven't had any issues since surgery at all and everything has moved really smoothly until I have started taking the vitamins religiously.  Is this common?  Thanks!

i have dealt with major constipation since my surgery and only recently gotten it under control . I have tried every thing and nothing seemed to have worked til just recently in the last 3 weeks.   My go to was always milk of magnesia, you have to make sure you're drinking lots and lots of water but sometimes it take 1-3 doses before it breaks everything down and you can actually go without birthing a small (poop child LOL)  WHat i would do was take 1 dosage of 60 ml of milk of magnesia and drink a ton of water if i had not going in 4 hours i take another 60 ml and drink a ton of water after (usually only took 2 doses) but sometimes i had to have that 3rd dose before i could go.

I was taking 4 senekot daily, restrolax daily and every 4th day i had no choice but to use milk of magnesia to clear myself out.  until i found out what works for me was what i posted below .

What i have since found works for me is i take 1 capful of restrolax once a day in my shake and i open up a re fridgerated probiotic capsule and add the powder into my shake.   and i have been going daily for 3 weeks now.  The only thing that has worked effectively for me in 8.5 months since surgery.

I went through constipation hell for several months -- so bad I resorted to hyphenated curse words, some blasphemous. Tried all sorts of remedies. When I had my 6 month follow up w/ the dietician, I told her my tale of woe and how before surgery I used to have one caffeinated coffee in the morning and presto! Thing moved like clockwork. Caffeine is not allowed now. She told me to go ahead and have a coffee. I did - and I do, and it's back to clockwork. Hope you find a solution too - I have felt your pain!

Drinking a lot of water will help. What has already been suggested using Restoralax is good. I often us that and a stool softener and a laxative to get things going. The vitamins do not make you constipated except iron. You would probably have this problem even without iron.

Taking your vitamins is essential for your health. Please try to take them and make sure you drink all your water
