No Changes after RNY surgery

If you have not "eaten" much of anything, why do you state in your previous post that you're "worried now"?

You should be worried.  We aren't telling you that to be mean.  We are telling you that because you don't have completely healed nerves yet and so may not be feeling everything.  You could do serious harm to yourself and not know it until much too late.  People die from not following postop instructions for any surgery.  WLS is one of the more serious procedures out there.  We just want you to be careful and check in with your surgeons office - for your own health and peace of mind.

You have issues, and I mean that in a kind and gentle tone. You are risking your life over your what if experiments. Please get a hold of your surgeon, dietician, therapist- anyone that can help you to get back on track.

Doubt you are going to find anyone that started eating solids two days after surgery.  Many felt nothing but still stuck to the plan.  What if thinking is going to get you in a lot of trouble down the road.  You are only a week post op and not only are you not sticking to liquids but you are already eating things like ice cream.  Seriously, you need to go back to boring old liquids and stick to the plan and talk to your centre about what you have done so they can help you understand why you need to stay on the post op diet and why you possibly are trying to sabotage yourself after two days.  You may think this is hate but it's concern.  Liquids are boring but they are short term and for a reason.  Everything was cut inside so you won't feel if you are doing any damage.  It can take months to feel full or hungry or anything.

Are you me? We had a surgery on the same day(me Hamilton) and I feel exactly same way. No pain no gasses maybe not too much of energy. The difference is that Im sticking to the plan full fluids are boring but this is what Im doing. I think that Im too scared and don't want do damage and know that everything inside is healing.

Yesterday was my follow up app with the nurse and I asked her if for sure they did RNY.

My advice for you get back to fluids and be happy that is easy for us, because when I'm reading what can happen I'm thankful for my easy way.

The idea of this surgery is not that you will feel sick when you eat.

This surgery is a tool that provides you with two things: restriction, and malabsorption. You have to use this tool by making proper eating choices, whi*****ludes selecting appropriate foods and eating them in appropriate portions. That's the deal.

Not everyone dumps. Not everyone gets the foamies. Not everyone experiences gas, cramping, nausea or any other discomfort. As mentioned already, the nerves in your gut are healing and you may not feel anything for a long time. I'm very concerned for you, not only because you are making very poor choices this soon out of surgery, but because you seem to expect to feel sick when you make these poor choices and that is just not what happens for most folks.

I strongly encourage you to contact your centre for help. I realize the fluid stage can get a bit boring, but there are many healthy options you can experiment with before reaching for the foods that made you overweight in the first place.

I know two people who had leaks, and both pulled through after the surgery to fix the leak.  Here is an article on leaks

I'm 4 weeks post-op. At 2 weeks post-op I had x-rays done and wanted to ask the doctor if I could see them because I wanted to make sure they actually did the surgery. I have incisions and even some incision pain still, and aside from my anemia symptoms from a post-operative bleed, I feel nothing. I don't feel hungry, I don't feel full. I'm in the pureed stage now. I will admit, the idea of eating pureed meats is insanely unappetizing, so I've been eating a lot of fish and beans. I make compromises. Truthfully, I probably could eat bread, pasta, and ice cream, but I've worked way too hard to get here. Weight loss surgery isn't something that's done so that you can push boundaries, it's done to assist you in making the right choices and following a plan. Come on girl, you did how many weeks pre-op of optifast? You can do this. Don't push boundaries because that'll just get you into trouble- whether it be with your success, your health, or both.

Try chugging a couple cups or more of liquid if you want to see 'what if'?  have you lost any weight post op?  these are not comments from haters..... they won't bother.  you are fortunate I guess but if you had surgery to lose weight why would you pu****  your thinking process as you have detailed it is unusual to say the least.   I have not experienced what you have...... nothing bad but I am five weeks post op and only going back to work next week.   I will say you are lucky, not sure if you are exercising good judgement.    call the clinic and ask them.   I really don't believe that you think the surgery was not done.

good luck!

You are much too early to be psyching yourself out like this. Please just follow the rules and stop second-guessing the surgery.

On your eating plan now. Don't expect to feel any different. Don't expect to feel like you had surgery. It's really about following the rules to be successful.

Many of us are like this!  I felt great from the first day of surgery. I never vomited. I never had anything stuck. I never had discomfort. My recovery was absolutely easy Peasy.  Your nerve endings are all cut and for many of us there's very little sensation.

Just follow the rules and please please get On your eating plan now. Don't expect to feel any different. Don't expect to feel like you had surgery. It's really about following the rules to be successful.

Please focus on what you should do. Please work your plan to the best of your ability. The rules work in the program works. Stop giving yourself the messages that something is wrong. Just except that everything is right and you are blessed and now you need to follow the rules. Good luck
