Optifast questions

I meet my surgeon (TWH) on the 4th.  Am I correct that's the date I purchase the optifast?

Does anyone remember the price per box?  I see some for sale on kijiji for $50-$60/box and I'm wondering if it would be worth the savings to drive and pick it up.   

Is a box a week's worth? 

I'll need 3 weeks worth - if anyone wants to pm me with their leftovers...  We can discuss the details privately - and I know we can't sell on this forum!

Hi there, at your 'meet the surgeon' you will be given a form to fill out for your optifast it is about $240 for 3 weeks worth and they will order it for you if you give them your VISA or M/C.  There are 14 packages in a carton ... so you will need 6 packages (4 a day for 21 days), you can get a mix of vanilla and chocolate.  Optifast cost about $80 a week.  It will be delivered to your home. Boxes have 14 packets so you need 2 boxes per week.  TWH has their patients order from Medical Mart and their prices are a lot better than what you mentioned unless they are saying a box but mean a week's worth.  14 packets is the usual in a box so you could always ask on kijiji if that is how many are in there.  Some centres sell is for $120 per week so that could be where the price you are seeing is coming from. I think with TWH it is just under $80/week or at least it was a few years ago when my friend went through them.

Geeze...I wouldn't buy something as important as Optifast on Kijji or any other place than dr. sanctioned.  It is going to be your only form of nutrition for a while & a very important step.  Do you really want to consume something that might not be all it is susposed to be???

I just bought Opti in St. Josephs Hamilton. I think it was $46 for the box of 14. I got 2 boxes plus the blood thinner and the antacid for $108 but I have a good drug plan for the 2 drugs. 

Remember 2 days of the pre surgery diet are just clear fluid not opti so it works out to 19 days x 4 per day = 76 packs or 5 1/2 boxes. since you have to buy full boxes it would be 6 boxes. Not really any waste though because you can have it after surgery (a few weeks after). 

I also thought of buying on kijiji. It was no cheaper on Kijiji than at the hospital. I think the stuff on kijiji is not so much a bargin but a way to get around needing a prescription for it. There are people that misuse the optifast.
