How does your age impact weight loss

I often hear of people losing 100 lbs by 6 months.  At the rate I am going I don't think there is any possible way for me.  I am about 6 weeks out and am only at about 28 lbs down in my weight.  I am frustrated when I read that and think what am I doing wrong?  I do my water, my vitamins and make sure I get my protein each day.  My loss has been very very slow.  I lost almost nothing on Opti and now maybe 2 or 3 pound a week since surgery.  I am pretty sure I will have a break away on this soon but I'll never loose a 100 by 6 months.

If you have lost 28 lb in 6 weeks and keep up that rate you will have lost 121 lb in 6 months.

Further, if you look at it as a percentage instead of an absolute...

If someone starts at 335 lb and looses 100 lb he/she has lost about 30% of his/her initial body weight. Your profile says that you started at 235 lb. If you loose the same 30% of your initial body weight you would lose 70 lb. Putting you at a weight of 165 lb. To loose the same percentage as the person who started at 335 lb and lost 100 lb in 6 months you would loose 70lb in 6 months. To reach a loss of 70 lb in 26 weeks (6 months = 26 weeks) you would need to loose 2.7 lb per week every week. You said you have lost 28 lb in 6 weeks. That is 4.6 lb per week. That is nearly double the percentage needed to loose 30% of your body weight in 6 months. You are loosing more than enough to loose 30% in 6 months.

Congratulations and good job. I hope I can be as successful as you.

Your weight loss is not age related. You are considered a light weight in wls. As the previous poster reported you are actually doing fine. Try not to measure yourself against others. This is your journey and your body. We do not all lose at the same rate.

Try to enjoy the fact you have already lost 28 lbs

Measuring your success against strangers on the internet only leads to frustration.

Ten years from now it won't matter if you lost your weight in 6 months or 10 months.

Thank you all.  Of course you are right.  I need to just carry on.  Each person's journey is different and we are all doing our best.  I sometimes get very impatient and want to do it now.  Thanks for helping me get me feet back on the ground.

We are close to the same weight.......I was 210 at surgery.  I'm eight weeks out today, and have lost 25 lbs.  I get frustrated also, but 25 lbs in two months is pretty darn good!

I know, it really is good but I'm so impatient.  Also I keep thinking, am I the one person this surgery doesn't work for?  Also my 28 lbs is noticeable to me in the way my clothes fit but it really isn't that noticeable to others.  This is especially frustrating when there are a few people who didn't want me to have the surgery and now they can say 'See, why would you go through all that and still not lose weight".  Guess I 'm just being sensitive.

You're doing great.  When you lose another ten lbs it will be really noticeable.  I'm hoping to be down another ten lbs by March 9th.....the day I'm leaving on vacation.

i didn't tell a lot f people about my surgery so I wouldn't have to listen to all the negative comments.  I have noticed though that I think some of my friendships are changing because I'm not eating/boozing like I used to.  That makes me sad.
