UPDATE: 6 months Post Op - Yesterday
Hi There!
I am happy to hear you've decided to go through the process - like most people on this site, I've struggled with my weight for years. I had the opportunity in 2011 to do the surgery or do the operation - my wife wanted me to do the surgery but I was confident I could fix this overweight thing on my own - there was great success initially as the Optifast program helps you quickly lose weight - but then life happened and I no matter how hard I tried, my bodies natural tendency to store fat took over and even with exercise an reduced calorie intake, it slowly began to come back on - something I'm sure everybody on this site can relate to.
My hospital stay at the OCH was amazing - the ward you end up on is actually the ICU ward an you get lots of attention with kind and understanding nursing staff - I have to give them credit because they answered all my concerns and questions and never made me feel awkward because of the type of surgery. I ended up staying a couple of extra days due to a minor complication and the surgeon wanted to make sure everything was alright and even she was amazing - checking in a couple of times a day and on my checkout day (a Saturday) she came in at 6:00am as she heard I was awake and ready to roll and apologized for making me stay - can you imagine? I give them a 15 out of 10 on competency, compassion and efficiency!
Barrhaven eh? I'm in the Barrhaven on the Green area of town.

PS: There's lots of information to absorb, my biggest suggestion, write down every question you have regardless of how silly or simple it may sound to you and ask it - the folks at the WMC are interested in seeing how engaged you are and to be honest, knowledge is everything!

Hey Zizzler;
Great to hear from you. Yes, one could say it's a rollercoaster ride, particularly around the emotions before and after the surgery but when you step aside and look at everything from the 3rd person, it's really minor in the general perspective of our lives! I've read about lots of great success on this site, and also about complications those have faced, and I feel for the most part, everybody would have to agree that this journey is one that has improved the quality of our lives and given us a second chance at enjoying the rest of our lives! The sacrifices we make (types of food, booze etc.) are truly minor in comparison to the typical end result!
Hope you are enjoying Family Day today!
