IRON
the only irons we absorb properly post bariatric surgery is feramax 150, proferrin there are generic of each kind. The best way to absorb feramax is to open it up and dissolve into a warm liquid such as decaf coffee or tea. All other irons are absorbed in the intestines they bypass during our surgery.
When my iron dropped my surgeon had me take ferrous gluconate 324mg twice a day. It brought my levels back up to normal. Go by your labs and ask your surgeon.
I took no iron supplements for five years because I was past menopause and my levels were fine.

Interesting to see this post as I am almost two years post op and went to the doctor as I have been very foggy headed lately maybe 6 to 8 months, along with general fatigue, weakness, pale skin.
He indicated my iron level were low - 117 and he would like closer to 140. He prescribed Ferrous Fumarate and within a few days my head cleared and I have feel like my old self again - my foggy sluggish head is much clearer.
I did not know this was more common due to our surgery. Very happy the issue was something so simple.
I was surprised to see so a few other posts and replies from others with Iron deficiency issues.
Thanks for your post.

I've taken all the iron salts for years and they have done very little for my iron levels. I am now on feramax. I won't waste my time with iron salts ever again
