Crockpot - I'm beginning to think it's just a crock!

I made the salsa chicken that everyone raved about and to me the chicken was just mush and disgusting.  I threw the whole pot out.  I wish I could find things to make in it that I don't mind as then it would be a great way to throw something in, walk away and come back 8 hours later to a ton of meals to freeze but I just can't get past the texture of most things in it.  Other than pot roast, I only use it to make stuffing and I just did that for the first time this year at Christmas.  I even gave my slow cooker away as I hadn't used it in years so had to borrow it again to make the stuffing this year.  LOL

I just used FF and it let me go there no problem.  Maybe you have a moody puter today.

I can see it from your link - thanks.  Here's a recipe to avoid (IMO) http://www.laaloosh.com/2012/10/02/dijon-chicken-slow-cooker -recipe/ Ended up using sugar free maple syrup on the chicken and no fat sour cream on the potatoes.

That pic just screams bland to me.  LOL  I do a lime dijon boneless chicken thighs on the grill, let them marinate then it takes like 20 minutes to heat up the grill and cook them. While they are grilling I make my sides.

What can I say - I was trying to be a saint and this seemed so low everything. What's that saying -- don't believe everything you see on the internet?

I am a slow weight loser - so trying to follow all these recommendations from the Dieticians and NUTS. I have never dried any chicken out in the oven, under the broiler or on the grill - so the crockpot is killing me! Will try a little lime w/ dijon next time I fire up the barbi. Thanks Tracey!

Tracey is a very good cook!  You can also find some great recipes under the what are you eating today thread. Most of them will share their recipes!!!

Have you tried any recipes using ground chicken or ground turkey? Such as chili or taco soup? I use mine a lot. Hope you find some recipes you like.

There are a lot of recipes on the internet. I use it lot for making beef stew. It does breakdown the meat. I have made versions with beans or just spices. A lot of it is experimenting

I agree that so many of the crockpot recipes are bland and the meat texture is so broken down.  I use my crock for chili - lots of spice - pea soup for the length of time to soften the peas - and stew.

Re the pea soup - I only ate it once I hit maintenance due to the high carb content.

I have made the salsa chicken that Tracey hates - and yes its mush.  However it filled me up so well that I used it in the weight loss phase.  I just ensured I used hot salsa and added extra spice and lots of habanero cheese on top.  It was a fiery mess
