Cross-post - 10 year old RNY malfuntion
As with all of the replies, I too thank you for sharing. Everyone's experiences helps all of us to become more informed and frankly offers more information than trying to get through to the clinic. I am so glad that you are better. It must have been frightening. Glad you are better and look forward to meeting you at a coffee night soon
Hey Karen, thank you for posting this, very good to know. I was wondering if you would mind sharing the symptoms your experienced that led you to seek ER attention. Was it just extreme pain in the gut as I imagine it would be or were there other indications that this was serious? I am so very happy that you are ok, we missed you while you were away. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Zizz, I had a bowel obstruction in 2012 - same symptoms and it was treated without surgery with an NG tube from my nose to my gut for a week while it worked itself out. I am blessed that the surgeon on-call took the time to figure out "why" this was happening, not just dismiss it as an obstruction. I hadn't pooped or even tooted in 3 days, crampy pains in my lower gut, distended stomach, etc. I couldn't even stand stretchy tights around my middle.

Karen, that is terrible. Sounds like you were lucky that you had good doctors. Hope your mending well. Deb
I had my surgery in the U.S. in November 2009. I had this issue in 2011. I suffered for over a week, in and out of E.R. and to family Doctor. I was seen by at least 4 different doctors and finally went to the E.R. at Guelph where I had a CT done. The E.R. doc thought it was something else, so the internist had a look at the scan and he could not figure it out. Dr. Reed was called in at 2am and I had emergency surgery to repair it. Luckily my small intestine was kinked and had not died. I had no signs of an obstruction just severe pain in my abdomen. They were able to repair mine laproscopically, so my recovery was good and I was able to go home after 1 day. I got very lucky, not only with it just being kinked but that a bariatric surgeon at Guelph would even look at me. Every one should listen to there bodies and really push to get care when there is something wrong!
Thanks guys :) I'm doing well and happy to be back on the straight and narrow.
