Just curious if anyone has tried sushi after surgery and what their experience was with it.  My husband and I enjoy sushi but I have not tried nor do I think I am ready since I'm 2 months post op but in the future I would like to try it.

Sashimi works well for me (no rice, just raw fish).  I enjoy it with the ginger, soy sauce and the tiniest bit of wasabi.  Before WLS I would have had a lot more wasabi.  Great source of protein, small amounts, and satisfies any craving I have for sushi.  I have tried sushi once since WLS and found it sat like a lump in my pouch.  Too much rice and not enough protein. A small amount of sashimi and a small seaweed salad is one of my favourite meals, which I enjoyed several times over the Christmas holidays last month.

I think craving change has a good suggestion. I would not have something like a sushi roll due the amount of rice.

I was okayed by the dietician at TWH to eat sashimi at 2 months post op. I now eat it weekly! I agree about the rice, probably not a great idea at this point.

I tried sushi at about 5 months out, I felt very ill afterwards.  I can eat it now, 2 1/2 years after surgery, I am able to eat it, but very slowly and I chew it very, very well.
