Hello. I had a DS in Feb 2004 and got pregnant 9 mths later. Now 12 yrs later I need to get my stomach reduced again. I got stumped on my weight loss due to pregnancy and gained quite abit back. Will the surgeons even touch me? I just need the stomach reduced that's all. Your help is appreciated.

I do believe thaat you would have to begin the process again as well as demonstrate that you have made changes in eating habits, lifestyle to so that ds is no loger working etc...

Hi there,

I'm assuming from the date of your surgery (2004) that you went to Michigan with Dr. L?

There is one surgeon in Ontario who will do the DS and possible revisions to the sleeve post-DS, and that is Dr. Hong out of Hamilton.  Things have greatly changed in Ontario since you and I had surgery, with regional bariatric centres and a bariatric registry for referrals.  You will have to get your family Dr. to refer you to the bariatric registry and go from there.

I'm sure you've tried, but have you "gone back to basics" so to speak to see if it makes a difference? LOW carb, HIGH protein - the usual post-DS diet - ?

Good luck :)

Hi Karen,

No I didn't go to the States. I had it done in Perry Sound, Ontario. There was a doctor, Dr.Hunt who did it. There is quite a few of ppl done by him. My issue is I got pregnant so early after surgery (I was told previous I wouldn't have kids) it messed up my full weight loss. While pregnant I barely ate enough to sustain us both, vomited constantly. The doctors made me eat in the middle of the night and I got use to it. Then came some depression  of being a single parent and I've managed to stretch my stomach out. I just need a reduction of my stomach size. I will have a referral sent in and just see what they say.

Thank you

Bobbi

What is your BMI now because you have to meet their criteria to even get referred to possibly get a revision.  It has to be 35 plus 2 co-morbidities or over 40.  If you don't meet that criteria then you may want to see if your GP could refer you to Dr. Hong directly through his general practice instead of through the regular referral way.  I had a friend that had an old RNY then she had a band and wanted to possibly reverse everything and get a sleeve and they sent her directly to Hong's private practice office to see if it was even possible so that she'd not go through the whole assessment for nothing and waste a spot that someone else could have.

Hi,

My bmi is over 40. Maybe calling his office and see if I need to go through the other channels or see him directly. There isn't many DSERS here. Thanks for your help

Might be worth a phone call to his office to find out if he can even do a re-sleeve.

OMG, Dr. Hunt in Parry Sound - that's a blast from the past ;)

Tracey made a great suggestion in seeing Dr. Hong before the registry.

Me again. Also I have a milk fat into intolerance. It does very bad things to me. Alot of issues with certain foods that I should be eating. I'm not a huge carbs person to begin with. I tried kale once and it almost sent me to emerg. The trapped gas and digestion if it I swear was going to kill me. I can't eat cheese any form. I can have dairy like milk n yogurt but milk ingredients with a high milk fat is very bad.

Thankfully, there's no milk fat in animal protein :)

I've tried to like kale very hard - nope! lol
