Thank you Dreamy74, you are so lovely and such an inspiration with your own weight loss!!
So happy that I had enough courage to ask my question on here....you know what they say "ask and you shall receive"!!!I am glued to these forums. Thanks again for your input and I will be sure to keep my profile updated!
All the best!
if you google sleep apnea 'stopbang' questionnaire, this is commonly used to determine whether a sleep apnea test should be performed. If you answer the questions and find you should be tested, get on it right away with your GP, don't wait for your center to request it.

It is far better to have it done and not need it than to suddenly need it and then have to get it done. It can take a year to do and get the results, then you have to do the calibration study, which can also take months. If you are keen on your surgery it can be devastating to find out you have to take the test and your surgery is delayed by a year or more because of it. I would recommend requesting a split sleep study half the night is monitoring and half the night is calibrating the machine.
Good luck!

This is excellent advice...I really like the idea of the split sleep study. Never even knew that was possible!
Stop Bang test. You get the paperwork with the test info on it at Orientation in Guelph. Actually it came in mail with my orientation date and list of blood work required.

I was in the same position as you. I'm sure you know your sleeping habits and know weather or not you have sleep issues. Regardless of what you think they will at some point want to eliminate that issue risk at surgery.
I was asked about if I snore and told then that I've snored all my life. I was told by the nurse that at some point this will have to be addressed.
So I went to my family dr and was sent for a sleep study. The sleep study is quite long to complete as appt times are months apart. I did the study and found that I have mild sleep apnea and was ordered a cpap machine to use. I can say I sleep better and was told had I not done this on my own that prior to surgery I would have been asked to get the sleep study.
Go get this done now if it's ok you will be cleared and if not you get a sleep cpap machine that you will eventually not need after the weight loss.
When you do the sleep study you will be given a script to identify if you need a cpap and what levels you will need. They will need that script before surgery.
I was so glad I did this on my own and I will tell you now that at some point this issue will be addresses. They will need confirmation from the sleep test to confirm you are not in need of a cpap machine.
So save your self time.
The duration to complete the sleep study was almost 5 months.
Do it now and when you meet with your anesthetist it will be a relief that it's been addressesd either way.
Good old luck in your journey.

you are doing all the right things. Read my post and you will see that to be ahead of the game you need this sleep study.
As for all else your right ask questions and all will tell you what you need.
I was very prepared and addresses as many issues as possible long before they asked me.
Start the vitamins as needed as your dr. Will tell you and test you to see what your vitD levels and iron currently are.
My vit D was low but told almost everyone is vit D deficient
your DR. Will address this.
I absolutly hate my cpap machine but I do use it as directed. I'm going for surgery in Jan and feel I'm prepared to have the surgery.
Good luck in your journey.

HI katiegirl:
just wanted to inform you that if you are taking any medication a lot of Med need to be converted to fast acting or even liquids. Don't know if this is an issue for you but just another thing to address if it relevant.
Your very early in your journey and still along way away from a surgery date.
But I will tell you now it goes very fast.
Im scheduled for surgery Jan 25/16 and just can't wait.
I've lost so much weight just by changing my bad habits.
The one thing the program is possitive on is when you go to the clinic for your appt and do your weigh-in.
They love to see a loss at every appt. Even if it's just a one pound make a point of always being lower.
I made a point of being down at every appt. And when I met with the surgeon he made a point of telling me that he likes the fact I was down at every weigh in. Just a few things to keep in mind.
Dont hesitate to contact me with any questions that may help you in your journey.
Good luck
simon
