I Meet my surgeon on Tuesday December 15/15 in Guelph  and if all ok and accepted will start my opti-fast. To say I'm excited is an understatement. After meetings my anesthesiologist the start of the opti- fast will start.

I do know that I will need 2-3 weeks of opti-fast

Never being on opti- fast or knowing how I will handle this process makes me anxious.

I am a motivated person and have no doubt about being compliant , my concern is how I will handle this.

So I want the know how others handled this process and thing they did to comply and make the experience a good one.

Tell me how you handled your opti-fast  ,  and what you did to make it a successful process for YOU.

If you can put your mind to it, you will succeed :) You will have a great goal set at the end of it, at that will be your motivation. I got myself ready with some sugar free syrups that made all the difference. I liked the coconut with both vanilla and chocolate, hazelnut with chocolate and also raspberry. I wasn't much into adding anything fruity to the vanilla. Have different broth flavors as well and lots of different flavors of sf jello. You will do just fine :) Also, drink lots of sugar free liquids so you don't get constipated before the surgery. Good luck!

I didn't have a problem with the Opti Stage - and I was just as anxious as you prior to starting.

Once the day came - I just KNEW that this was part of the process and the beginning a of a life long change for me.

(I also didn't want to be the one on Surgery Day where the surgeon took one look at me and sent me home!)

After all of the meetings and hard work to fail at that point would have been devastating.

Keep in mind - the first 3 days are the hardest. Then your body goes into ketosis and it's more of a head game.

Just have some jello and broth to change things up a bit.

Some centres allow raw veggies - mine (TWH) did not.

You will do just fine! You've got this!

Hi there I'm just finishing up 3 weeks of OPTI, I have 5 days left ... as mentioned above the first couple of days are the hardest, you may experience a headache or two but just take some Tylenol for it ... two things I learned on OPTI don't take them too close together or you may get the dreaded OPTI trots and secondly for my last OPTI of the night I usually choose chocolate and then do not put as much water so I have a pudding consistency ... it's a nice change from drinking it. Drink your broth and your water and you will be just fine! Good luck you can do this :)

I totally loved the  syrups to change things up.  My center also allows 2 cups of vegetables per day.  So with lunch I would have a mini cucumber.  With dinner I would sautee onion, zucchini, peppers with some vegetable broth and some seasoning.

Best of luck to you, you sound like you are ready.  I add decaf instant coffee and caramel extract to the chocolate with ice and water, blended in the afternoon once in awhile, I have added banana extract to chocolate also.  But I have only flavoured them up about 8 times, I quite like the flavour of them plain, thank goodness.  I much prefer them in a blender with ice, than in a shaker cup though.  I have just 3 days left of my 6 weeks, once again...thank goodness!!  Oh and I add benefibre (1tsp per shake).  Good luck on your journey!

Hi Simon,

I am on Day 8 of Opti and thought I would struggle - especially with all of the Christmas parties and events over the past week - but it has not been nearly as hard as I anticipated.

One of my favourite ways to enjoy Opti has been mixed into a Starbucks Iced Coffee (black) with sugar free vanilla syrup.  Also a very easy option for if you are out and about.

Chicken broth has also been amazing to change things up to a more savoury flavour.

It sounds tough at first, but you will be breezing through it in no time!!
