1 week post-op today, and have questions!

Hey everyone,

New member on this forum, but have been reading posts for some time now.

So I had my surgery a week ago by Dr. Starr (HRRH). Things so far have been going smoothly, but I did have a few questions that I was hoping people who are further along can help me answer please :)

1) I burp insanely! It's worst after drinking/eating... but even changing position or even sitting down. Do this get better over time? After a few months, would it go away at all?

2) Did anyone find any good tasting multi-vitamins other than Centrum and the Life-Brand? I've tried these two brands, and they both taste pretty discussing to me. I know we're supposed to stay away from gummy multivits due to lack of enough vitamins/minerals in them.

3) Also, if anyone would mind sharing their week 1 weight loss post op. For me, I have lost 16 pounds, but I have no idea if this is average, low, or good.

Appreciate your support and advice!

I think gas is pretty normal after surgery and so far even at 6 months post op im still super gassy.   We cant have gummy multi vitamins because  we do not absorb them.  I just take the centrum chewables because i have no choice but to.. they really arent that bad really.  I didnt weigh myself much early out you are still healing and likely filled with fluids still.

Referral Feb 14 2014; Orientation July 30 2014; 1 on 1's Feb 17, 2015; Pre op May 27 2015; Surgery date June 16, 2015

1) Dunno

2) I was stooopid and bought the wrong thing --calcium carbonate instead of citrate, they were Jamieson yummy Tootsie roll tasting things. Don't buy them!

3) Everyone's weight loss is different. I came home from surgery weighing 4 lb more than I went in. CURSES!!!! -- IV fluids the culprit. My average weight loss is low at 11.5 lb per month. I spoke to a nurse about this 2 days ago and she reassured me that this was fine. People weighing 30% more than me going in dropped considerably more at the get go. Trust me -- I did and still do have a lot to lose! I have had problems with lightheadedness that hinder post op exercise (cardiac & inner ear being investigated) and this is impacting my ability to burn calories.

Keep moving. It will help with the gas. Everyone is different but I usually only get the burbs if I over eat.

crush up the vitamins into applesauce. You probably won't taste them

Great weight loss. As already mentioned it is different for everyone. When you hit about three weeks you will stall. Search the site and you will see how popular the topic is

Although there is no official average, 5 pounds in the first week is pretty typical.  Sixteen is pretty rare.
