Exercise post surgery

So I am 25 days post op and I have only lost 11.5 pounds since surgery.  I am still eating around 550-600 calories per day and I guess I have a few questions.

Is this caloric intake where we should be at this stage? I am keeping my carbs for the day under 20g sugars around 10 protein between 80-90g per day and fats under 10g.  I know everyone's bodies are different and the weight will come off different for everyone I just feel like it should be moving a bit quicker when we are taking in such low caloric intake.

So I am going to start back at the gym next week I figure this has been enough time and my question is with working out should I increase my caloric intake? When I used to go to the gym I would burn around 200 calories I am quite full with what I'm eating presently the puréed stage I find very difficult to get a 1/4 cup in at times as well a drink 2 protein shakes and water lol so if it's recommended we increase our caloric intake when working out i want to pre plan before I start back on how I will get it all in.  I'm just not sure if I only have say 600 calories a day and I burn 200 at gym if it will be enough to still lose weight I don't want to put my body into a state where it stalls my weight loss.

Also one last question how much water is everyone able to get in a day?  I find I need close to an hour before or after a meal with no liquids but with it taking me almost the whole morning to drink a protein drink then I have lunch I only have a small window to ge****er in before I have half another protein drink and supper then more protein drink then yogurt before bed.  Who knew it would be this confusing lol any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Do not take all morning to finish a protein drink.  Sip what you can and put it in the refrigerator for your next meal.

You do not need to wait one hour before eating or drinking,  You do need to wait at least 30 minutes after.  You need at least 64 ounces of water a day but more is fine.

It is not recommended to eat back calories burned at the gym.  Even if you go into negative calories i.e. burning more calories than you eat, you body will burn stored fat to keep you going.

Thanks for the help! I know i dont have to wait an hour but i find if i dont then i feel full after 2 bites of something like my stomach hasnt emptied yet. I didnt think we needed more calories when working out but thought i would check.

Hi,

I am 28 days post op and was feeling the same way as you with the weight loss. I went to visit my sister on Friday morning and when I returned (late Monday afternoon) I had lost weight, 3 pounds. I too am going to start the gym sooner rather than later. I time myself 30 minutes after eating so I know when to drink. I have three bottles ready for the day (plus 8oz in the am with meds). I try and get one down between breakfast and lunch and then one after lunch and the third after supper. It is HARD...I totally understand. I was taking two protein drinks a day but now that I am in soft food I am down to one. I found the protein drinks very filling and therefore didn't want to drink or eat. My clinic also told me that the protein drinks count as liquid. My bottles all equal 64 oz (8 glasses) but I don't worry if I don't completely finish one by bed. I was really stressing over the water for the first bit and my friend said...one day at a time, do your best and it will come...and it's a cliche but it's true.

Just another thought on the weight loss...I went through my closet and found tops that I wouldn't wear because they were too tight...now they fit nicely or are too big. Try on clothes and see if there is a difference there! Good Luck and let us know how the gym works out! I am nervous to start but think it will really help.
