That's because you don't have the right tools. Get yourself a turnip chopper from Pampered Chef and it's like cutting through butter.  I've had one for 20 years now.  No more getting the axe out to cut one in half or banging my cleaver with a hammer to get through it.  I am not a turnip lover but we always cook ours the day before as well, one less thing to cook on the big day and it reheats very well.

They actually have a device called a turnip cleaver?  where have I been?  I watched my mother go thru the slicing and chopping - groaning the whole time.  She didn't know about it either.

The last year ( before I found it pre done) I put it in the micro for a few minutes to soften the skin.  Much easier to chop and peel but wax all over the damn place.

OK - so you ordered this online then?

They changed the name actually since I bought mine.  It's now called a crinkle cutter and you could cut your carrots into fancy crinkled sticks or make crinkled fries.  LOL  I just use mine for turnip.  You can order it online but I was invited to a Pampered Chef party a long time ago and when she cut through a whole turnip like nothing, I bought 4 and gave them away to all the women in my family that *****ed about cutting turnips.  LOL

I paid $12 20 years ago but it's now $16.75 according to their website.  Not sure if Pampered Chef parties are still popular but they will often just add your order on to an existing party or you can order online but not sure what they charge for shipping.

Sorry you are feeling in pain. The cold weather has me a little achy as well.Sand castle exhibit sounds great. I love the ones they come up with. They always amaze me.

I wasn't feeling great yesterday and went to bed at 8:30. Except for a few wake ups I slept through the night. I think I am fighting a sinus infection. I need to get moving as well because my joints are not happy.

Pat I think I am paying for my athletic pursuits.  I played singles tennis last week instead of my usual doubles and one shot I went for made me really pound the court - my back felt like it did when I broke it 18 months ago.  Into my hips and legs now.  Not affecting my golf game at least!

I same my one Tylenol 3 for bedtime so I can sleep with the pain,  Otherwise I toss and turn trying to find relief.

Getting older sure takes stamina - but it beats the alternative eh?

I kick myself for getting rid of the pain killers I had. And yes I try to remind myself the alternative i worse. I have great year ahead of me which helps with the depression and dealing with the pain. but some days it does suck
