Frustrated @ Humber wait time - vent post!
I know how frustrating it is through Humber. I was hoping the new hospital would make a change for the better. Guess not. My records were also "lost" for 6 months last year - making my total referral to surgery a very long 18 months. And you know what I got for a response after my records were found again...."you should have checked with us every wee****il we scheduled your next step and this would not have happened to you"
Excuse me for being patient. Don't worry about making frequent calls. Vent all you want, you can tell Im still venting and my surgery was July 10th. The upside, everything is perfect now and no glitches or health issues.
Referral - Feb/14, Orientation HRRH - September/14, Surgeon appt. & gastroscopy Dr. Hagen - October/14, Trio appts. - April/15, Dr. Glazer - April/15, Revision RNY - July 10, 2015
I was referred to Humber in July 2014 too. I had my orientation in October 2014. I didn't see the surgeon until March 2015. I would be scheduled to have surgery March 2016 but I called the surgeons office and was able to get a cancellation for November 23rd his month. It's horrible how long the wait list is and especially since the hospital moved sites. That moved backed the wait list up even more. As soon as you get a surgery date, get on the cancellation list.
Hi Pumpkin Spice,
I was just wondering how you got an earlier date for surgery with Dr. Starr. I finished all of my appts. and was cleared for surgery Aug. 2015 but due to being backed up the closest date for surgery they could give me was March 2016. I did ask to be put on their cancellation list, but should I be calling to see if there are any??? Just looking for some advice..
Thanks.. :)

Yes, you should call and ask if there is a possible cancellation and if you might be able to be moved up sooner. Be as polite and nicey nice as you can. That is what I did. She said no at the time but called me back in a couple days with a new date. She said she looked at my file at least 5 times to move me up but because i have to do opti for 3 weeks, it was difficult because cancellations are usually within a week or two. So if you only have to do 1 or 2 weeks of opti, you have a better chance of getting picked to move up sooner too.
Firstly I feel your pain I have waited over a year to meet the doctor and that is happening Nov 12 and I have my trio appts for Nov 23 My GP sent my referral in about 5 times (not sure which one was received) Having said all this my friend had this procedure 14 years ago and the wait times were between 5-7 years so I guess in some way its better BUT I am still very FRUSTRATeD
Had my orientation Humber in August as well and I'm anxious to get this all rolling too. I tried calling for a cancellation for the next apt but was flat out turned away. so I think that only works after you see the surgeon for either the trio appointment s and the surgery itself I guess. from what I'm hearing we won't get a call until January or February.
in the meantime I started making changes to my diet to be bariatric friendly. I figure investigating protein powders and attempting to eliminate carbs will better prepare me for the NUT apt so they have no reason not to push me right through to surgery !

I attended orientation at Humber in March 2015 after waiting six months for a referral(GP had to make referral twice)l. At that time I was told that within the next 8 weeks appointments would be scheduled and that after various tests a date would be set with a surgeon..... Well eight weeks have come and gone .... Calls to Humber at 8, 16 and 20 weeks all yielded the same boilerplate answer.... "they were running behind schedule but that everything was okay"( I was always told that they were processing February's orientation). I finally asked my GP to call...After three weeks, she informs me that she received a letter from Humber claiming that I was not in the program. Unfortunately, she could not tell me why. After several calls to Humber I finally spoke to a nurse who tells me that everything is in order and that I should be speaking with booking. She then promptly forwards me to booking which goes directly to an answering machine. One week later I get a call from booking informing me that they cannot book an appointment because I had not attended the orientation (????).
My last call to bookings has me speaking to the same person who left the message... She again informs me that I did not attend the orientation.... but then when she pulls up my file she changes her story indicating that she now sees that I attended orientation in March. Rather than conclude that this mistake could be the cause of the problem... She then asks if I smoke?? Which I say no. After that she then muses that maybe my BMI isn't high enough (wtf???) Finally I'm told that she needs to speak with a nurse before she can book me for an appointment. When I ask why.... she doesn't know.
I spent the better part of last week researching getting sleeved in Mexico... turned down dates in November.... going to have it done by Dr. Alvarez on December 14th.
Still haven't heard back from the nurse at Humber. Good Luck.
Omg what a disaster. do you happen to have the first name of that person? There's another Laura on here that was told she didn't qualify with a BMI of 36 and 2+ co-morbidities. I think she may have spoken to that same person. Since then, her stuff was worked out but my goodness that must have been upsetting. I want to be sure I don't get the same person.
wow, don't these people read the files and think before they speak?
Anyway please let us know how it goes in Mexico, I have been considering it myself. if I may be so nosy, what are they charging you and what's included?
thanks!!
