You have an awful lot of know it all attitude at 4 weeks post op. I'm 10 years post op and Barb is around 6 or 7 years post op but you take your 4 weeks of experience and run with it. We were all just making suggestions as we have seen many start eating things like popcorn too soon and then it becomes part of their daily menu with the rationale that it's only 3 carbs, big deal if it's 3 carbs, it's wasted calories as there is nothing else in it. The nuts this soon you won't even know if they are giving you grief as your innards are still healing. It can take months to actually feel things. I believe you were at TEGH so out of TWH and have never seen anyone allowed to eat that at 4 weeks post op. Not saying you are a liar but just haven't seen it from any other patients out of there. I'm sure if you check your book, it should say that all meals and snacks should have protein in them and I doubt your popcorn has any protein in it unless it's the faux cheddar one that might have a smidge of protein from the cheese. Meals and snacks should be protein based not just a bit of protein for high numbers of carbs. Your carbs are almost the same as your protein numbers and normally at 4 weeks, the protein numbers are double that of the carbs.
I DID CHECK MY BOOK!!! AND MY BOOK IS NOT OUT OF TEGH..I WAS NOT GIVEN A BOOK OUT OF TEGH. I WAS GIVEN A BOOK OUT OF MY CENTER! AND EVERYONES CENTER IS DIFFERENT.

Argue away. Being from Napanee, I know you went through Kingston but referred to TEGH, which is usually under the TWH umbrella. I am sure you were given the Ottawa book, which allows people to progress at their own speed. Yep they progress at their own speed and often they are the ones that have issues, just saying. Keep on trucking along with your attitude in place and argue the moot points instead of actually listening to what those of us have to say with more than a minute's experience. And am sure your book says to eat a high carb snack like popcorn doesn't it. SMDH.
YOU CONSIDER 3CARBS AND 39CALORIES "HIGH CARB"? HMM I'D HATE TO SEE WHAT IS REALLY HIGH CARB!!

It is for a snack considering the next is fat and no protein. It's protein first all the time and you have 0 protein in this snack. Eat all the popcorn you want as a snack and see you in a few months with your post of I don't understand why I am not losing. Eating stuff like popcorn is a slippery slope and that is all everyone is trying to caution you about. It's 3/4 cup today and 1 cup tomorrow and by two months out you will be able to handle the full 3 3/4 cup that is considered a serving size. Don't listen to what we are cautioning, it's your journey and you can find out the hard way. Just trying to save you from what is to come but since you know better keep at it :)
Truly my last response on this.
I really think you are missing the point. ( and I understand that dumping hormones when losing weight fast can cause upset)
Its the choices - the tastes of things you are giving yourself at 4 weeks post op - and most importantly you are eating an item that can cause lots of gastric upset at 4 weeks post op
However - as Tracey said - you have your own journey and will do what you want.
OH I FORGOT YOU KNOW MY EATING HABITS, YOU DONT KNOW THAT THE REASON I WENT FOR THIS SURGERY WAS NOT BECAUSE I HAD BAD EATING HABITS (ON THE CONTRARY I HAD GOOD ONES AND I EXERCISED ALL THE TIME) BUT I AM A VERY BAD DIABETIC (STILL ON INSULIN EVEN AFTER SURGERY) AND IT WAS MY MEDS MAKING ME GAIN WEIGHT NO MATTER WHAT I DID, SO NO...I WILL NOT BE EATING 3-3\4CUPS OF POPCORN IN ANOTHER MONTH CAUSE I JUST DONT DO THAT. I MEASURE EVERYTHING AND I ALWAYS HAVE. MOST DAYS I GET BETWEEN 600-800 CALORIES AND UPWARDS OF 80 PROTEIN. AND MY CARBS FROM MY POPCORN?? THEY ARE THE LEAST CARBS IN MY WHOLE MEAL PLAN. SO IF EATING A MEASLY CUP OF POPCORN KEEPS ME FROM SCOURGING ON COOKIES AND CHIPS, THEN SO BE IT. I AM FOLLOWING MY PLAN RIGHT TO A TEE, BUT THANKS FOR BEING PRUDES :) AND HAVE A GOOD DAY!
Are you following to a tee? Really? I also had surgery at TEGH and follow the TWH plan. Here's some things to re-read my friend.
Eat your food in this order:
1. Protein first
Eating the protein portion of your meal first helps you to get enough protein even if you are too full to finish the entire meal. Your body needs 60 to 80 grams of protein each day. Because of the small amount of food you are eating it is important to make sure half (50%) of the food you eat is protein. Choose a good source of protein at every meal and snack (see page 18 for ideas).
Record what you eat in a food journal. Aim to eat 60g to 80g of protein a day.
2. Vegetables/fruit second
3. Grain/starch third
This is for life. It's good practice to start with, no matter what "type" of eater you were before. I also had diabetes. Along with that I had extreme high blood pressure, sleep apnea, depression and high cholesterol.
Mostly importantly I want you to know this. You are not following the TWH plan to a "tee" because you would still be at the soft food stage. This is during Weeks 5-9. Popcorn is not on this list. Many things are on this list, but popcorn is not. You are still healing and things like a kernel can hurt the opening of your stoma. It's not just habits they are trying to instill, it is also protecting you from the surgery you had.
Here is the link for anyone who is interested. This is the TWH guide for Eating For Health after Gastric Bypass Surgery. I know you don't need it ntensegirl, but for those who are new (you know, maybe three weeks or less, since four weeks is now considered vet status) or those who are looking into surgery and are doing the right thing and researching the heck out of it.
I saw that you asked for a critique on your nutrition before...well you got it here. Take it or leave it, but we do know a thing or two, as it's been years since we had surgery and strive to live the bartiatric lifestyle. We actually do care about our newbies and don't want them to make mistakes. You might not think you're making one, but you are giving bad advice to someone else who might just be fresh out of surgery and have them think that they can eat popcorn and hurt their swollen and sore stoma. We just want to right that thought.
Don't do it anyone else reading this. Just don't.
