Pain while eating - just stopped Prevacid
Hi guys!! I checked the forum first, but couldn't really find what I was looking for.
I am two and a half months post-op and just stopped Prevacid about 4-5 days ago. (For a while I was taking it twice a day).
Ever since I find that I have pain in my chest (directly above the stomach), almost like food is getting stuck there. It makes me feel nauseous and I stop eating because it's too uncomfortable. This happens after 1-2 bites.
Does anyone else get this pain? If it persists, I'm definitely going to call the centre, but I have my three month follow up on the 23rd, so I'm trying to hold off.
I recall reading somewhere that when you stop PPI's sometimes the stomach acid comes back worse at first, then evens out. Could this be it?

Suddenly stopping it without weaning yourself off can make acid reflux worse than ever. When I was on a PPI, my pharmacist told me to take the Prevacid one day and just OTC Zantac the next for a week then the 2nd week, do the Prevacid one day then Zantac two days in a row for another week. 3rd week was Zantac for 3 days in a row and by then the acid had stopped and I was able to go cold turkey. Most centres want people on a PPI for 6 months so surprised they took you off already.
Thank you. St. Mike's gave me a one month supply, then I got a three month prescription from my NP at my one month follow up (but also told me to take 2 a day if I needed to). When I went to my surgeon follow up, he told me to stop taking it after one to two weeks and that he would send me for a scope.. That's not until March. I think I am going to see if I can get another script when I go on the 23rd.

I got a 90-day supply because I had GERD prior to surgery but was advised to stop taking it after that. I stopped taking it and almost immediately experienced gnawing pains in my left side. Went back on and it went away. Just saw the nurse at my 6 month appt this week and she said, yeah go ahead and stay on the Prevacid until my next (1 year) appt. So I would call your centre.
Thank you Kate. I've tried to call them a couple times over the past two days with no luck. I managed to snag a last minute appointment with my family doctor tonight, so hopefully he can write me a new prescription. It hurts to even drink water right now. Not good.

Just an update - My family doctor gave me a six month supply... So I'm good for that now. Just taking it last night and this morning I have noticed a huge improvement.
