Presciptions
So I had surgery Monday, got home late Wed. night and last night I went in to get my prescriptions and found out that the previcid was a capsule and the colace is a big red ball. I thought we were only allowed small pills? anyone else have this problem? I can not talk to the doctors now until Monday.
Are there repeats on your prescription? I also had my dumb pharmacist say I needed new prescription because my first fill did not have repeats on it. I talk to nutritionist and surgeon and they assured me that my prescription was to be repeated for something like 6 months. When I got the fast tabs, I asked to pharmacist to confirm and sure enough - I had repeats on and didnt matter that I changed from capsules to fast tabs. Only saying this because I got the run around for no reason at all. You gotta challenge these pharmacists. In fact, my surgeon said the 6 month repeats on previcid is just a standard arbitary number used with surgeons in general. I realize Im from a different hospital but you could just call your surgeon's office, the receptionist could clarify for you if you do not want to challenge the pharmacist.

Ask the pharmacist for previcid FASTTABS - they melt under the tongue. I know what you mean, when I got my prescription at first, my pharmacist did not have stock of the fast tabs and I had to have the capsules. What I did for the first of my repeats is I opened the capsule and put it on applesauce on a spoon. After that I made sure I had the fast tabs. I never had the colace...find out if it comes in liquid.
Happy Holloween and wish you fast recovery.

I was given a generic version of Pervacid by my pharmacist at Queen's Quay Loblaws (Rod is a great guy) http://www.sandoz.ca/cs/groups/public/@sge_ca/documents/docu ment/n_prod_1392020.pdf I told him about my surgery and asked how big the pills were - he opened the bottle and showed me these very small pills that I have no trouble getting down.
Colace a big red ball? You can buy generic stool softener over the counter -- I don't have an insurance plan so do this to avoid dispensing fee. It is exactly the same as Colace - pharmacist told me. Sometimes they stick in my throat and burst - gag - awful taste. If constipation becomes an issue -- you may want to try a senna laxative that includes softener. Loblaws "Exact" brand are pills that you can cut in half.
Thanks everyone.
I just got what I was prescribed. I will open the capsules this month and see about the melt away ones for next month. As for the stool softeners I did get the over the counter kind (cheaper) and will hope they go down ok. I have an appointment on Tuesday so I will talk to them about it them.
Otherwise everything seems ok. I started having some chicken broth the other night and after 3 weeks of opti and then a few days from surgery it REALLY tasted good! lol
