My family is freaking me out
My husband shared his safety concerns with me pre-op as did my parents. I educated them (and myself) as much as possible and we discussed everything - good and bad - so that we were all 100% aware of all the risks.
I also followed the program suggestions completely to point and learned so much at the TWH Support Group Sessions from both staff and peers.
I had my surgery (RNY) in April 2015, have been overjoyed with the results and haven't felt this good in a long time. I would do it again in a heart beat.
My Mother shared with me about a month ago that she was more scared than she let me know but that she was confident it was the right choice for me. It makes me over the moon happy to have my parents be proud of my progress.
I wish you the very best in your journey. The only way for me to do it was to have the facts. All the facts, both good and bad. We are all responsible for how we use this tool, look after, and care for ourselves post-op and on.
Take care.
Just as an FYI...
When I spoke to my surgeon prior to the surgery, I asked him straight up: "How many patients have died on the table here during this surgery?" His response: "Zero."
There have been a few deaths post-op (not following the rules usually brings that sort of thing about!) but they have never lost one person in surgery. So your family should be reassured that you will see them again. Any surgery can be nerve-wracking, but honestly, you're doing the best thing for you to guarantee you'll be around a whole lot longer to spend even more time with them! (There's a threat if ever there was one! LOL)
Wishing you luck. I am sure it'll go super smoothly!
