I didn't go to Mexico, and can't give you the name of anyone that has.  One thing to remember with the Mexico option, once you have had surgery, you do not have any bariatric support (unless your GP is well versed in Bariatrics).  It may be quicker to do the surgery in Mexico, but staying in Ontario has many advantages that outweigh the timeline.  In Ontario, you have time to prepare yourself before surgery.  You also have support and scheduled checks at various points up until 5 years post surgery.  If you have problems or questions, you can call a clinic to get answers/help.  Just something to think about.

Once again thankyou.  I think maybe I'm going through what I'm sure others have gone through.. Just wanting it done and over with. But you are so right, I need to be near the surgeon who performs my surgery just in case.

I need to try and relax and realize I didn't get fat in one day so it's not going away in one day 😁

Please please dont go to Mexico and pay out of your own pocket. Many of the blogs are those who live in the US and their insurance and medical clinics completely function differently than our OHIP and OBN system. You will have no followup, no fixes and no support.

Even if you went for a colonoscopy at a specialized clinic in Ottawa and you have a problem, you will not get support from ER at a hospital. They will ask you where did you have it done and send you back to that clinic. I know several people that went that route and I will never go to a clinic in my area....I will only go to a Government recognized hospital.

Listen to all of us. Patience is what makes us stronger. This is for the rest of your life. And believe me...I had a gastric stapling (vertical sleeve) 25 years ago. I had a lot of problems for the last two years just trying to stay alive on liquids and tube feedings until I could get a fix as a RNY revision. I just had the RNY revision on July 10th. Im doing great, thank you. Doctors and family members dont know how I managed to stay sane for two years. But I did it. Wait and have your WLS done here.

Referral - Feb/14, Orientation HRRH - September/14, Surgeon appt. & gastroscopy Dr. Hagen - October/14, Trio appts. - April/15, Dr. Glazer - April/15, Revision RNY - July 10, 2015

I know this sounds awful and judgemental but I wouldn't go on vacation to Mexico, let alone have a major surgery there.  For me, I need to have the follow-up and know that I am good hands.

Lol you don't sound aweful that was the first thing that popped into my mind also.. I think I'm just in a hurry and looking for a easy way out, not good I know. I've just been so emotional lately, hating this body.

Embarassed I let it get this far.

Has you Dr referred you yet?  Sorry brainfart haha.  You never know you may go through the process quickly.  Just start making those small changes now so you are prepared when your referral goes through.  But I don't think Mexico is the answer also.  And just a heads up, I know you are in a very emotional state, but it's just going to slow your process down with the social workers and psychiatrists and such.  I wasn't having too bad emotional issues over the weight but weight related issues over a VERY SERIOUS TRAMATIC event in my life, hence the counselling that I needed and still need and I needed an all clear through the bariatric psychiatrist before my surgeon referral, 3 months 2 x per week counselling before speaking to psychiatrist again.  I know you can't fake your way through this but maybe some meditation , or journaling (love this) before you get referred so some of your issues are dealt with so they can see you have worked on it yourself? Geez, I'm rambling off your ears lately!  But I just don't want to see you held up for something you can try and help yourself with now.  I didn't realize until this process started how much my traumatic event played a part in this whole journey and how dealing with it has "free'd" me!!

take care girly

How is that? I am not comfortable with Mexico. My mothers friend and her husband were murdered there and nothing was done except many police cover-ups. So no, I wouldn't set food there and would not have my surgery there.

I also would not give up the after care that I have had here in Canada for anything.

If that is something you chose, good for you. In my opinion it isn't a decision I would make for myself.

And to add to it, to claim I don't know what I am talking about insinuates that I gave an actual opinion or recommendation on the procedures there, which I did not. I never claimed to know anything about it because it isn't an avenue I would take.

Perhaps you don't know what you are talking about?
