Bread **** PAINFULL****
Hi Everyone,
11 weeks post-op feeling great and I have confidents so much... WOW!!!
So I started to eatint little bits of bread here and there and notice that I feel very ill.. So being out with my twins we all stopped for lunch at subway, keep the right choices in mind I got a over roasted chicken breast sub, with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and just the salt and pepper. First bit went down good but the second one almost made me throw up right in the resturant. Has anyone had any issues with bread? I am scared to eat because i felt horrible.

I avoid bread, pasta, rice etc as it is not part of my plan.. is it part of yours? Personally I'd avoid it altogether. Too high in calories, not enough nutrition even if it was on my allowed foods list.

Hi blueeyes I didn't try bread until I was 3 months out and then I threw up pretty badly on it. After 6 months I tried it again and was successful. Now, after 7.5 months out on rare occasions I can have half a slice of thin bread as long as I have a little peanut butter or light margarine on it and chew really really well. I find it's not worth the hassle so I avoid it mostly but sometimes if I am constipated a little bread can do wonders in getting things moving again so that's when I have it. When you're next ready to try bread again in a few months, perhaps start with a thin wrap and try not to eat more than half of it and go slow. Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Oh, heck, yes.
I've had issues with bread from the moment I had my VBG in April of 2000. For the most part, it just sits there like a lump until it exits the way it entered. Over time I've been able to have small bites of very well-done toast or toasted bagels, or (very rarely) a 1/4 sandwich if the inside of it has something like tuna or egg salad, but by and large it's no bread for me UNLESS it's the outside of a very crusty roll. Breadsticks and crackers are more or less okay, but it can go either way.
I've found that most bread is simply too soft and lumpy to manage, so most of the time I don't eat it -- but every once in a while, the pain is worth it. And I do still occasionally pine for a cheeseburger. If you must have bread, you might try it toasted into submission or just the crusts with very little of the actual bread -- that's worked best for me, but, as I said, it can still, even after 15 years, go either way.
I was the same and my post surgery diet included bread cereal and rice....non of which I could eat. My surgeon told me if I never ate them again that would be a battle won. I am 4 months out and still feel sick with even a nibble of bread...it expands in your stomach and feels like a rock. Stick to what you need....protein. ..vitamins...and water.....amy thing else isn't necessary. Best wishes on your journey!
