I got my date!

My surgery is booked for November 19 at 8 am. I am excited about getting a date, and really pleased with how fast the process has been at Guelph. The surgery is 8.5 months after my referral, and just over 7 months since my orientation. 

I am a little sad, however, because now I won't get to go to the Grey Cup. I bought my ticket last month.  My brother will get to go now in my place. I really wanted to go (I have gone the last 2 years) but this is more important!

Sorry you are missing the Grey Cup. Hopefully you will see some on TV. Trust me you will enjoy it more next year when you can fit in the seats better and just feel healthier.

Congratulations on getting your date!  I know how you feel about missing the Grey Cup. I bought tickets to see Dirty Dancing at the Mirvish Theatre but won't be able to go because of my surgery on Nov 18th.

Congrats on getting a date so exciting! I'm currently going through guelph as well I'm hoping to have surgery before the end of march I am going for my second set of appointments middle of october! 

Wow I was just reading your timeline..I am so new to all this, had no idea you have to go through so much..social worker? sleep centre? if you have time maybe you could explain alittle more to me the process..I'd be going to Ottawa since I live fairly close, I go to my Dr Oct5 for referral..Thanks so much and congrats!!

Every centre has a different process and different timelines.  At Guelph, you must meet with a social worker at least twice to be approved. Some need more visits and some need to see a psychologist as well. 

I got through the process faster than average because I was willing to take cancellation appointments (I live in Guelph but most patients with the centre do not), and I am relatively healthy (except for my weight).  There is a questionnaire that will determine if you need a sleep study. It is called the STOPBANG. If you answer yes to at least 4 of the 8 questions, you need a sleep study. You can look it up online for more details.

I too am relatively healthy..minus the weight.

I am so active at work as my job require me to literally run for 8hrs, I just kind of stopped caring about my weight. I figured I had a great loving husband who thinks I am beautiful and tells me daily, healthy kids and great friends and a job I love, so I was happy.

Deep down though ive never been truly happy, I make up excuses as to why I don't go out here and there, hate having my pic taken, always make sure my makeup looks good because that's all ive really got anymore is my my face.

I know now that my weight is affecting my family in ways they cant see but I can.

I go to DR Oct5 and hope to get this ball rolling asap, I live about 45 min from Ottawa so I am sure that's where I will be referred.

Hello everyone.....I have been slowly moving along this exciting process we have all elected to start and other than about 3 months of "dicking" around with sleep study results I am happy with the speed of moving through the centre in Guelph. Cancellation lists are really your best friend if you have the flexibility. I have about 1.5hrs drive to Guelph but I do have the flexibility so I have taken advantage of that fact and booked cancellations for more than a few of my appointments. I have a great family doctor who pushes through anything she can if possible. All in all the time it has taken hasn't been all that bad. You think faster is good but you do need the time to adjust and do all the stuff you need to do. I have my post op nutrition class on Nov 9th and the booking nurse suggests my surgeon appt will be mid November to early December. I will find out more once my post op nut class is complete.

Good luck everyone with your scheduled appointments etc. I check in and out often for any Guelph updates and am always happy to see someone who has their surgery date booked.
