How long is the general wait time for surgery in Ottawa - Gastric Bypass? I was referred 4 yrs ago but never went any further because I thought " I can do this on my own" well here I am 60 lbs heavier. I'm at my all time lowest time in my life and realize I can't do this on my own, I'm 42, 5'3 and weigh 263.. It's bad.

I don't know about the wait time.....I just wanted to say, at least this time around you are committed and 100% sure you are making the right choice.  Best of luck with everything!

Hi there!

i am relatively new in my journey at the Ottawa hospital and, from what I can tell from others who have much more experience with the system than I, looks like the wait is about 18-24 months from referral to surgery. Everyone says the wait time is part of the journey and that it goes by quickly---we'll see:) lol

That seems so long!

how new are you? I'm very as I don't see my dr for my referral till Oct 5

im embarrassed by all this, my husband is the only one who knows, not sure about telling my friends or coworkers.

I also don't know the wait time for Ottawa, but I want to say hang in there.  I was in your boat and let myself back out and now have been through the whole process again, about a 15 month wait (surgery Dec 2015). I am 5'4, 38 years old and 374lbs. I feel ready now though, and then I didn't so now I know I will succeed this time!!  Stay strong, the wait will fly by and you will be fully prepared for your life change. Maybe while you are in the waiting process you can see a counsellor to help with your feelings, I had to to go through this process and I FEEL so thankful that the social workers told me too!  You can do it, keep your head up!!

Hi

Its good to know someone who backed out also, I kick myself everyday for it!

I heard the average wait time was 18 months, yours being 15 still seems like such a long wait. I'm embarrassed about all this, my husband is the only one who knows, I don't want to tell my friends or coworkers.. Is that normal?

Ive been looking at my husband today wondering what he see's in me, he's so handsome and could have any woman he wants I'm sure.. I've never really felt like this, I've always felt atleast alittle attractive and pretty. I don't feel that anymore.

Hope to hear from you again, I need some friends going through this also.

Good luck to you!

Not sure why I can't see your timeline, I tried .

hope everything goes well for you today.

I am thinking I'd be referred to Ottawa again since I am close to that hospital.

Someone said the wait for Ottawa was 18 months, that's hard to swallow as that seems like such a long long time.

Thankyou for your response and hope to hear from you soon.

Is it normal to feel embarrassed about this surgery, my husband is the only one who knows.. I don't want to tell my friends or coworkers;(

Take care
