After Surgery Hair Loss

I've had hair loss issues for years, every time I lost weight or experienced stress, I'd get huge bald spots in my head. My hair is very thin so any stressor which causes hair loss leads to bald spots for me.  I used Nioxin for years because of this problem and it never helped, sorry to be the bearer of bad news for those that paid for it, I know it's not cheap.  It is however a great product in terms of how it makes your hair feel and your scalp feel, but if your body experiences the stress of the surgery and rapid weight loss enough that your hair follicles stop their reproduction en masse, no consumer product is going to change that.  It's just one of those things (in my opinion) that you have to hope and pray that you have enough hair so that the hair loss goes unnoticeable, or that you don't lose much, or that if you do, the loss is in inconspicuous areas.  My experience of the 3 or 4 ttimes this has happened to me so far is that the hair loss became very noticeable about 3 months after the stressor (ie., surgery, child birth, rapid weight loss, stress etc), continued for about 6 months and then by that point the loss started to slow down and the pubies started to grow back in again. By the one year mark I looked like I had the frizzies all the time.  Also, for many people, when the hair grows back in again, it's often different than before, ie., sometimes curlier, sometimes frizzier, thinner or coarser, everyone's different.  You may also notice a slowed growth in your finger and toe nails.  I always developed a ring across my big toenails.  My doc said that is how you can tell how long ago someone experienced a stressor, by the ring on their toe nails and how far progressed it is along the growth.

I'm hoping for both of our sakes that the powers that be will go easy on us!  I'm NOT looking forward to this aspect of the sugery.

Don't worry Kim, you will be fine and will not have any need to wear a wig. Just take care of your hair, and yourself. Good Luck!Don't worry Kim, you will be fine and will not have any need to wear a wig. Just take care of your hair, and yourself. Good Luck!
