Bad cold/cough, what can we take?
What can we take post rny for a bad cold/cough/sore throat? My throat feels like its on fire this morning, it is extremely painful. I have not had this post op yet and am wondering what we can take over the counter stuff. All I have in the house is Tylenol cold and flu. Thank you for any tips or ideas. I hate being sick soooo much.

Zizzler, so sorry you got this nasty bug. That is how mine started in my throat, felt like broken glass every time I tried to swallow. It very quickly went into my chest. I only took tylenol at first for the pain, but it became clear very quickly I needed antibiotics. Went to emerg and got all the good stuff, but it is still taking a long time for the cough to go. You may need to go to a clinic and get some prescription meds. Take care of yourself
I went to a clinic the day my throat was so sore. I thought it was going to close up it was so swollen and red. (I looked with a flashlight) The doctor game me amoxicillin which I took for a day or two but I was just getting worse, and my chest was getting bad, and very short of breath. So I went to emerg, they gave me some ventolin treatments and chest xray. Doc said that the amoxicillin wasn't going to work. He gave me stronger antibiotics, two kinds of puffers, and prednisone to take for 5 days. My oxygen sats were low so he actually told me I could stay in the hospital for a couple of days if I wanted. I decided just to take my prescriptions and go home.
I don't know if it will be so bad for you. My husband got sick a couple days after I did, he got some antibiotics from his doctor and he is pretty much better now. My cough is still hanging on.
If you are not having trouble with breathing, you could probably just go to a clinic and get meds.

Keep taking the Tylenol Cold and Flu. You and I aren't in the same situation as Judy, having just had extensive surgery so no need to go to the ER (hers was definitely warranted!). If you still feel terrible and it's getting worse, go to the walk-in clinic as I did. The doctor said, "You don't even need to tell me why you're here, I can hear you wheezing from here". He listened to my chest - infection in my left lung. Antibiotics and 2 different puffers.
Feel better!
