Doctor can not do my referral.. Ugh

It's been close to a month and my doctor still hasn't been able to do my referral . She finds it complicated and says she's waiting for a response. I am really frustrated with the situation as I know many people's referral was immediate.

my doc has admitted she is not "computer savvy " but this is not fair!!!

This is ridiculous - it's 2015 ffs, Does she not know how to surf the interwebz? You don't have to be any kind of "savvy" to click a few buttons.

If you have not already contacted the registry for advice, I would do so. Let them know your situation and get details on how to complete the referral so that you can show your doctor. Then make an appointment to see the doctor in person with the expressed reason for making the appointment to "complete the referral to the bariatric specialist".

I see to that referrals are no longer faxed, it is now done through an online means.

Does your Doc have an admin assistant? They are the smart ones who usually take care of all this...

Yes, I'm pretty sure that the "no more faxing" thing is likely what's screwing her doctor up. The internet is HARD YOU KNOW. ;)

Destiny are you in Toronto?  If you are, I could PM you my doctor's info - as my doctor has a walk-in clinic as well and could do your referral.  She and her clinic are very electronically savvy.  Let me know.

Hi Destiny...I actually responded to you one month ago. Unfortunately Karen M shot me down and I understand why you didn't pick up on what I was trying to advise you. I'm going to approach your problem a different way. I know your disappointment over your Dr's inability to follow the obesity on line registry referral. I do because I went through this and about five other setbacks throughout the year because of incompetent people and systems amongst our medical professionals.

Pits time you take control of your own "Destiny" so to speak. Your Dr is not seriously helping you so you can go she your Dr and approach this problem another way. My Dr couldn't figure out how to do the online registry. Immediately I looked at the physicians referral website to see what he was talking about. I went back to him the next day and tried to coach him with my "computer savvy" he simply didn't want to give the time. So I asked him to find me a bariatric surgeon and fax a referral for me to see that surgeon.he did because that was something he could easily ask his assistant to do. The next day I got confirmation that I had to weight three months to see the surgeon my Dr chose....So...I asked for another. The next appt for the second fax referral was in three weeks. I took it. In that appt the surgeon while he was talking to me in his office did an online referral. That was it. The surgeon advised that it is up to the Bariatric Network who and where I will be sent but if there was anything else he could help me with, I was welcome to come and ask him.

See, what I mean. There is more than one way to get what you want and use strategy to take control.

When you want to continue this strand, I will tell you about the other problems that happened that tried to sabotage what I wanted to happen. You will be blown away. Many of us on this forum have had to deal with setbacks. Take control, find out why things are not going your way and take control.

Excuse me, I "shot you down"?! What I did was correct the misinformation that you are consistently giving people on this forum, on a vast variety of topics.

The process to obtain weight loss surgery in Ontario is very straightforward. It does not involve making appointments with multiple doctors, trying to "outwit the system". It does not include being referred directly to a bariatric surgeon so that he can do the referral to the registry. In doing so, not only are we taking up a surgeon's valuable time (that he could be spending on the people already properly registered!), but we would be wasting our own time by adding additional steps to an already lengthy process.

Yes, I know you had a referral to the surgeon. Yes, I know that is how your process worked. Your process/experience is not typical. You came into this with a 25 year old weight loss surgery that needed to be revised/fixed and had several health issues due to that. THAT is why your process was the way it was.

If you have something to say to me, say it directly. Taking a shot at me and questioning my credibility in an unrelated post is not only sneaky and cowardly, it's rude.

I don't believe you can fax in referrals anymore. It has to be done online. I'll ask TWH tomorrow what your options are.

You are right you cannot fax bariatric referrals. This can only be done online. But the Dr's have access to a list of surgeons offices in Ontario. These individual surgeons offices can be contacted by fax by a family physician requesting a consult for the patient. I don't know how exactly to say this any better but obviously I not understood. By seeing an individual bariatric surgeon through your family doctor by fax you can secure an appt. in that appt with the bariatric surgeon, he can register you online. Then you wait for the letter from the Ontario bariatric network that tells you what surgeon and hospital you will see from that point on. I'm sorry I seemed to be confusing people. Trust me you can get the ball rolling this way.
