Sleep test

Just wondered if anyone had any insight into the waiting time frame for the sleep test.

My husband is going in for his Sleep Test on September 22, but his follow up isn't for 8 weeks after the test.

Does that seem right?

He is just worried that this will again set him back another 8 weeks before they will send his file for surgery.

OR once the test is done, will they forward the results to the Bariatric Clinic and they can go ahead with his file?

Thanks

in Advance!

Hi!

I have had to go to a sleep clinic 3 times in the past. I always had to make my follow up appt for 6 weeks after.

May not be necessarily the standard in the field, but don't feel like yours is the only one. Others may be zipping through faster.

It did seem to delay me in the whole process, but you just have to deal with it. The most important thing is determining if there is sleep apnea. I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea, had NO idea. (But the test you on your back, as that is how they do surgery!)  It is vital to know for surgery. I had to get a CPAP, but a year later, 9 months out, I just had another sleep study to determine if my apnea is resolved. I think it is, 140 lbs later, but the doc decides, not me. ;)

The clinic I use is in Sarnia ON.

I had a sleep test done in Ottawa, before I decided to have the RNY.  I had the test in September, in February of the next year, I received a call that the Dr. wanted to see me to give me my results.  The nurse then asked what I was doing in September, as that was the first available appointment.  I told her I wasn't sure what I was doing in September, I might die from sleep apnea by then.  LOL

So 1 year from time of test to getting the results and prescription for CPAP machine.  Ottawa is terrible with wait times.  8 weeks sounds good to me.

I also had my sleep test done before my referral.  My sleep test was done in January, I didn't get the results until April, I only got the call last week while I was on vacation to set an appointment with the Dr. to go over the results.  I was told that since I only had minimal apnea, I was considered low priority and therefore I could wait up to a year to see the physician.  In the meantime, I provided the results I received in April to the Nurse at OWMC just to be safe.  She figured my results wouldn't hold me back and took a copy for my file.  My case may be different as I was referred for the test by my GP ahead of time so my GP provided me the copy of my results to give to OWMC.  If it was the OWMC that requested the sleep study for your hubby, then they should receive the results directly from the clinic.
